It’s the GVW-R that determines what rules you have to play by, not the actual weight of the truck and trailer together. A 2500 or larger pickup with a 20 foot trailer of any sort behind it will almost certainly put you over 10,000 lbs on the combined weight ratings. Good chance you’re over 10,000 on the actual empty weight too, but maybe not. A 2500/3500 single rear wheel pickup is around 7500 lbs I’d say. Dually probably closer to 8000.
you should find a cat scale and weigh the truck and trailer full of fuel with you in it. That is important information to know when running smaller lighter weight equipment that’s easy to overload. And watch your hitch weight too especially if it’s a bumper pull trailer.wis bang Thanks this. -

I can only imagine what the entrance ramps would look like if every pickup with bumper pull under 10,000 went into the scale house.
