i say, the carrier pays, he says the driver pays

I know with Swift I was told I have to pay for my drug test, like $30 when I get out to training. I'm pretty sure that any drug tests following the "pre hire" are paid for by the company.
If it's a question of who should pay for the test I'm not sure how to answer that. -
If any company EVER tells a driver to pay for the pre-employment...... RUN RUN RUN FAST!!!! They are obviously some kind of cheapskates.
If they tell you to pay for the random, tell 'em you dont have any money so you cant go, if they tell DAC that you refused, fight it. -
I have never paid for one with any company i have been with in 30 years......If they want to hire me they have always paid for testing.
-
dont believe ive ever paid for a drug test. probably was built into the cost of the trucking school i attended, so im sure that i in effect paid for that one. but prehire drug tests? always paid by company in my experience. thats not to say im arguing that no company charges it to the driver...just the ones ive been hired by.
-
i say the carrier, however, is there a legal answer?
-
That is kind of frustrating to know. I"m hoping someone will forget to charge me once they give me my test. I know I won't remember to remind them. -
ez money thats the way it should be. im not real sure but i think someplace in the regs, it states its the employer who pays. because when they started drug testing they came up that. jon
EZ Money Thanks this. -
I have never paid for drug test, as a company driver or as an O/O leased to a carrier...
There might be a clause that if you quit within a certain date they will back charge you.
But I have never had or will pay upfront for a drug test -
[h=3]Who pays for the DOT drug or alcohol test or SAP recommended treatment/education, the employer or employee?[/h]The Department's regulations are silent on who is responsible for paying for the testing or SAP recommended treatment/education. Payment may be based an understanding between the employer and employee, including applicants for safety-sensitive positions.
An employer may not, however, refrain from sending a "split specimen" for testing because the employee does not pay for the test in advance.

Generally the employer does though.
