Firstly, they CANNOT keep your check. I would go after them big time about this, it is illegal to do so...

Secondly, I would bet it is your experience level holding you back on gaining a new driving job... Us guys with several years driving behind us likely could land a new job the next day. Heck, a buddy of mine was in a similar situation, being let go that work day... he got on the phone while finishing his route and had a new job before he cleaned out his truck(but he had years of experience to back himself up).

    What to do:

Like others have said, I'd try smaller Mom and Pop companies. Keep at it, someone will give you a shot.

Yea i think it is also because with only 11 months of exp i was already limited to certain companies anyway....

and i need to check into the check situation i just thought since the damage was done to their truck they could have me pay for as much as they could...

I was not telling him to lie......just to leave out the company that is screwing him over.
He just needs a small company to get him back in a truck.Stay with them a year or two then all of this will be behind him.
I came off the road for over a year and was treated like a rookie when i went back looking for a driving job.
I was told i was not qualified by most companies...BS!!
Like i forgot to drive after being on the road 25 years? Screw them!
    I used a buddy who owns a truck as a recent reference....did i lie? Yes,sure did but i have a job now.

Also all of these newer drivers who think they will get one year OTR and get the local dream job, keep dreaming. Those local, great paying jobs are not easy to find.

problem your running into is you did report it, and you thought it didnt need reporting?, your best bet on getting another job driving, maybe a very small company, or driving for an O/O, Hopefully you learned a lesson, no matter how minor, report it, I own my truck, but pull a companies trailer, Had a guy hit the rear or trailer and broke a marker light, I REPORTED IT, company talk with driver of the truck, was resolved, no mark on my record

Your trying to sugar coat it. When mommy and daddy was telling you the difference between right and wrong you didn't listen very good.

    Ok......Lie like hell then!
If it gets him another job, keeps him off welfare and food on the table then who is it hurting?
At least he is wanting to work and get this behind him.

Not the difference between right and wrong but the ability to survive.
Why should his career be over because of one little incident some azzhat pencil pusher is telling his perspective employers?

I guess some people are perfect and never bent a rule here and there...Geeze!

Every trucker at one time or another has made a minor mistake, wether it be denting a tank, bending over a stop sign with a trailer, catching an awning overhead or just outright flattening a 4 wheeler for standing on their brakes. Nobody is perfect and we all screw up, especially when we are stressed and / or tired. Yes, you probabally shouldhave told them ASAP but since there was not another vehcile involved I understand your thinkiing.
Personally, I would be up front with what happened to any new company you apply for. Different people look at the situation different ways. You obviously learned to be more carefull and report things immediately and some carriers will look at it from the standpoint of "you learned on someone elses dime". (the way i would look at it)
Big companies have a lot of policies they must enforce because there would be chaos without them. Some like to set examples to keep the rest aware of the result of breaking the rules.

Get your hazmat and tanker endorsements (if you dont already have them) as all the oil company's are looking for warm bodies to put behind the wheel as long as you have a clean mvr. I doubt they even look at your dac. Places I have seen where hiring, TX, LA and ND
