Just to help Blanche out at the given rate and a driver getting 6.5 mpg plus paying himself .40 cpm that would leave him with .40 cpm for operating cost after fuel. The way i look at it is .40 cpm would not cover operating cost after fuel plus still bring in a profit. Then you take tolls (or the extra fuel to go around tolls) that leaves you with what? Crap. Now to DH to a area with a decent freight rate and there you go you are in the negative. Mind you im just a lowley company driver but still can figure this out on my own that the rate given is WAY to low to be going in to the NE.

HOW ABOUT THIS ONE
new load that they offered me was from riddle,or to Wichita, KS 48,000lbs lumber tarped paying $2831 and they said it is 1808 miles not sure what map there using but will find out tomorrow. the best I come up with is 1851 miles. who knows of a good flatbed company that I can go to? I own my own truck and trailer. -
Good lord apparently there is no good paying freight coming out of there. I guess that is why we stick to the east coast.
skierzek Thanks this. -
Right around a buck per mile without driver pay as I only ran 70,000 miles last year, 40% of those deadhead. If I could average my fixed expenses into a 10,000 mile month, I guarantee I'd be under .90 and possibly closer to .80. I don't have my spread sheet in front of me. Anyone running flatbed for less than $2.00 per real loaded mile is asking for future trouble.
BTW, I am leased to a carrier. I would not turn the key for $1 plus fuel as that would be a break even scenario with driver pay. When I had drivers, with similar fuel prices, my break even was 1.50 plus or minus, and that was with 3 year old trucks paying drivers .38 plus $40 tarp. No way would I take all the risk and make less than a company driver for a decent company that drives a brand new truck.skierzek, volvodriver01, driverdriver and 2 others Thank this. -
There is but there company trucks are hauling it. Just to let you ALL know I turned down BOTH loads.... DON'T HAUL CHEAP FREIGHT
driverdriver Thanks this. -
Is Wichita a good area for you? If so, it might be worth it if you can pick up a $3 load and average it. I run for Landstar and have done ok to great getting out of there, just depends on what pops up. It is easier at LS getting out of the PNW for a good rate than it was under my authority.

Actually all cattle hauling aside, I know of quite a bit of no tarp legal flatbed freight paying well over 4.00 a mile. Just cause I ain't a freight hauler doesn't mean my options aren't open.skierzek Thanks this.

Who is paying that kind of money ???

I pulled a load yesterday for $5.70 per mile.
Jerry82 and volvodriver01 Thank this.
