I remember being told on here a long time ago before I got started that I'd be lucky to get 5 mpg out of it. I'm about ready to turn it back up to 525 hp cause it was almost getting 6 mpg before I replaced the head and cut it back.

Ok, updates:
Have been moving fairly steady, just not in a good rhythm. Money on average has been decent. Without repairs was above break even. The repairs were expected given the truck had 571K to start.
REPAIRS: shocks 2 leaking after bobtailed to Chicago replaced all of them. Batterries were still dropping voltage early for the loads on them so replaced with 1100 amp dual purpose, installed 1500 watt inverter total $1500.
Steering issue finally figured out pitman arm was slipping on steering box shaft, meant new box. Climate control replaced. Steering $1600, climate control $560 plus install of $100. Unbelievably expensive for 3 knobs and 2 micro switches.
One trailer tire, picked up a piece of metal looked like a pintle pin, 1/2" round and 4 inches long. Bought used tire $146 mounted and on good deal.
Last was DOT in NY, found leaking ABS valve, OOS $700 and what ever the ticket ends up costing if I can't get it dismissed. Attorney fees anyway I look at it. My log book was marked but not labeled for the last couple of duty changes. They did take the book and computer analyze the month to date. That took about an hour seemed much longer. Since only last changes was not ticketed.
Started slow so revenue is not what I would expect more deadhead than would have liked. Next month should be much better. Without the unexpected repairs would have been in the black. What I would expect for the first month, but, I still get a little nuts about red ink on the balance sheet.
Am taking a few days off then back at it Friday.outerspacehillbilly, poorrednek, Gears and 5 others Thank this. -
Thanks for the update!
Always seems there's something or somebody that has their hand out when you start making a few bucks. I've been lucky (so far) in that respect. Only repair in the last month was a door hinge on the trailer. Still cost over $100 to have it replaced. I'm not complaining, could always be worse. I plan on having the 5th wheel jaws and such rebuilt within the next month. Hardly any adjustment left. That will cost more than $100 unfortunately. -
Gears,
Look at as money invested to get the resale up. You mentioned you would drive this for a year and upgrade in another thread. Granted it will cost you $$ but the value of truck will go up.

Yeah, I know....
It's just the cost of doing business. At least it's not anything major. I'm REALLY hoping to avoid that cost. Any money in my self-imposed repair escrow will go towards the new truck and also towards the repair escrow account for that rig. -
KH,
The only repair that will slightly effect the resale on a used rig is a motor overhaul with some warranty. Other than that the only thing good maintenance will do at time of resale will make your rig look a little more appetizing than another.....Fratsit and poorrednek Thank this. -
there is always those "unexpected" repairs. better get used to that
