They can melt the aluminum in sand at a certain temp and turn it in as s brick and get more money for it.

I use to take them off at the yard with a hammer. Go out to your trailer put on your lock and smack it with a 4lb hammer, it will come right off. At least the enforcer locks will, I don't know about other makes.

I use a chunk of 3/8 chain and a big lock place the lock on the back side of the pin it works great

Large fleets it would be expensive but I had a GPS locator on all three of my trailers, yes they could have been chopped up for scrap but it would record the last location's of the trailer.
I bet like others the aluminum trailers have been scraped.
I find a special place in hell for thieves
