I am new to this industry and I am open to learning any and all I can. But you don't have to be an expert to know that this industry comes with it's ups and it's downs. Irregardless of why companies like Swift hire newbies the point is that they do and they should be commended for it. With all due respect ... it does not take a rocket scientist to know that a trucking company that hires inexperienced drivers is going to have more negative feedback than a company that will only hire experienced drivers. That's like comparing a High School tumbler to an Olympic Level Athlete and then downing the High School because their tumblers fall too much. Where is the logic?

Swift shouldn't be commended for anything.. They take a chance on the drivers because they make money off of them.. I am all for capitalism and godbless Jerry M he has mastered the art.. But to say they need to be commended for it come on now.. and by God Bless jerry I mean he should be brought up on charges for his business practices.. buy and bankruptcy buy and bankruptcy.. crooks...

Well if that's the attitude you choose to take toward it then all I can see is to each their own. I am new to this industry and I plan to keep a positive attitude, be a sponge, soak up as much knowledge as I can and avoid negative complaining drivers at all costs!

"other", because the worst will always be the fly by nighters that either wont pay you at all or will pay you when they feel like it and run partially illegal or fully illegal with some or no repairs.

    NO COMPANY IS PERFECT !!!!

You want a perfect trucking job, then go buy a truck and do it yourself, that is the ONLY way you will find the perfect job out here...

To anyone thinking of Swift, Warner, CR England, keep this in mind, you need to start somewhere !!!

There is NOTHING anymore wrong with them has most other companies, you are driving their trucks and you will have a dispatcher, (FM /DM) or what ever else they may call themselves...

Also, you will find negative comments on ANY of these companies, the reason for most of the negative comments are simple..
They hire people right out of school, or people who need a license,
MOST people get into this professions with false hopes or expectations, they see the trucks on the highway and they probably think that its the coolest job in the world...
They think, get a license and they will drive from NY to LA on their own time, stopping at all the tourist spots on the way, and it will always be sunny....
    Guess what ?????
    WRONG !!!!!!!!!

You will not run from NY to LA, at least not directly, and you will NOT be doing it at your leisure...

You will NOT, be stopping at tourist hot spots, most you can't get a truck into, some of them you can, but you really won't have the time, once in awhile sure, but for the most part, no...
Little known fact, you may have delivery to Nevada somewhere, so you think, COOL
I'm going to run down the strip in Vegas, check it out....WRONG !!! You can't drive a truck down the strip....

The weather is up and down, one day sunny, the next its raining, then of coarse there is winter driving, when the highway is covered in ice and snow, or its snowing so hard that you can't see your hood....
Then there is also the time where you get to your stop and you have to crank frozen dollies down, or you have to tread through a foot of snow to get to the dollies of a trailer your picking up.
    ..
Summer is a little better, unless you have to unload a 53' trailer in 100+ degree heat...

So what happens is, these Newbies come to these companies cause they are the only ones that will hire them, they see that trucking is NOT what its cracked up to be and they blame it on the company for not giving them what they have thought it would be like...

And some of these other Super truckers out there that slam places like Swift etc because one of them cut them off on the highway, or hit them in a parking lot, etc , Don't let them get to you, they DID NOT come out of the womb shifting a truck, they stated somewhere too, maybe some O/O gave them a shot, maybe their Dad drove and taught them.. whatever
I've seen too many times a Stevens, or a Swift, Warner, etc pulls into a truck stop and tries to back into a spot and has a little trouble, I hear on the CB all these Super truckers talking ####, or filming them on their phones, here is an idea, tighten up your over sized Peterbuilt belt buckle and go out there and help them, you started somewhere, you weren't backing trucks up at age 4....
    And Speaking of that
Back in the day, a truck would break down on the side of the road and 5 trucks would stop to help the driver out, each one with a different tool ...
Now if a truck breaks down, other trucks go by, Hell most don't even ask if they have help coming.. What happened to the Brotherhood of this industry ???

As I said, EVERYTHING you read on this site or other sites regarding trucking companies needs to be taken with a grain of a salt...
Where one company didn't work out for one person, may work great for you ...

    Be Safe !!!

Southpaw, that's about the best thing I've seen posted on the forum. I agree with everything you said, especially about the super truckers who sometimes have their collective heads up their arse. Give the newbies a break....

I have a feeling many who post on here are now aware of one crucial fact... there are big companies (ie. Swift, Covenant, JBH, etc...) and then not so big companies, but still big enough to run driver schools and put drivers in to seats. Therein lies the difference. Some companies actually look for potential good employees/drivers and want them to stay and work for them (FFE, WS, Schneider, Roehl). Then there are the others who simply wish to fill seats (Swift, Werner, etc). Why? Because the fed. govt pays them to do so. Yep... they are paid... free taxpayer money to subsidize their hiring, in addition to the several thousand they soak students for.

One comment here says the Feds are all over Swift. No... they are not. The owners of these huge trucking companies have Congress and the Fed. govt. in their back pocket. Think about this:

Where else can a company make more money by hiring "employees" constantly as opposed to profits from their business?

What other business in this country is allowed to pay employees below the Fed. minimum wage?

What other business is allowed to work employees 20-30 days straight, 10 and more hours a day?

What other company allows a 3rd party (insurance companies) to control what employees are hired and can work... to their mutual benefit, but to the detriment of experienced drivers looking for work?

I could go on... but think about it. Fact is, the trucking industry, when viewed through the business operations of large companies like Swift... is a huge fraud that uses taxpayer money to funnel huge cash surpluses in the form of grant money to these companies. Companies like Swift are NOT trucking companies. They are fraudulent schemes that survive on grant money... free money from the govt.
