It takes longer to train a monkey to shift a 13 vs a 10. There is also more risk that the monkey will damage the 13.
Why 10 speed transmissions?!

well i c the biggest ? missd out of them all which 10spd is better if some1 gave me a truck with a super 10 in it, i'd have rip the thing out and throw it in the junk pile
-
All in all it's not bad...... you could be stuck with one of those lightning transmissions THAT YOU CANT RIP OUT AND JUNK......and is a total POS.
I'm a 13 guy stuck in a 9 so I guess choose your poison. -
if i have 2 do that much shifting in and out with a super 10 u might as well have a 18

Super 10 has a differnet top ratio and OD than a straight 10. I personal hate a S10 but to each his own. Now if you have a 9 speed most of those you could change the back half and turn it into a 13. werner does that and one other mega. than come time to sell they covert it for higher resale. Now as to why a 10 they cheaper than a 13 less maintance for a fleet where drivers rip and tear at them and easier to get one in a pinch. me I prefer a 13 over all trannies enless I could find another high tq 6 and 4.....

Simple they don't trust drivers too be able to shift an 13 speed or 18 without tearing up the trans

Its all a matter of preference and application. I used to run a flat top freight with super 10 it did the job but I agree there were many times I wished for 13. I was always heavy but if I was pulling constant light loads the ten would probly work just fine. Maybe when truck was spec'd it was going to do light duty or price difference between 10 and 13 was quite significant.
