I don't know where you get 'driving 10, resting 10'. You can drive 11 hours hours, not ten.
Anyway, it sounds like you have been driving 3 hours, then taking a 3 hour break while your co-driver drives and repeating that process.
If that works for you then keep doing it. You know it's not legal but if you're both getting enough rest I don't see a problem.
As for the logic behind the current HOS I have no idea. It's based on a one size fits all approach that looks good on paper.
Why 10, why not 5 or 3 hours?

So if the rules of society do not apply then that means I can go steal anything I want. Race through town or drag a woman back to my cave and have my way with her.
You don't go blind anywhere, you work within the boundaries of those rules. So when you get pulled over and your co driver is running on your logs or you on his, how much is the fine? Because legally you cannot log like you are doing.
If you cannot stay alert enough to do your job then you need a different career. Sunrise and sunset get to me the most. I just pull over for a few minutes and walk around and am ready to go again.Lepton1, Friday, firemedic2816 and 2 others Thank this. -
Absolutely! You can even exceed the maximum speed on occasion. And if you get really silly you can drive with one hand on the wheel.Lepton1 and Canned Spam Thank this.

Pssh, just yesterday I made a ham sammich rolling across 80. Ham cheese and spicy mustard. Dripped some mustard on the floor I just cleaned while passing the jersey scales.
Life's a #####, but when you have 3 hours a day to drive you have to pass the time. -
There are rules and rules. Do not make all that simple, not that is nos simple, but some rules are just not right, from human and phisical point of view.

So long as you know you're taking a risk and are getting enough rest I say do what works.
Whether we agree with the rules or not, we are expected to follow them so just be prepared to face the music if caught.
The most important rule in the HOS, IMO, is the one that can only be enforced by the driver. Get enough rest and be safe. -
it's more of a medical topic. A certain number of hours is needed for proper sleep. This after you take time to shower, eat etc. then you are down to 8

I like it the way it is. Driving 3 on and 3 off would wear me out quick.Lepton1 Thanks this.
