The DOT states that carriers must gather a 10 year work history and verify the last three years on all new drivers. It is up to each carrier as to whether they choose to go further back.

    We all know that.

Many companies do not even answer the verification letters.

The verification process is why it can take a while to get on with some carriers. I know a few who have incorporated a means to verify driver employment through their website.

It's not so much where you worked as they want to know what states you possibly held a CDL in. Back in the old days, one could lose their license and go to the next state and get another. So much for suspending your license.

Before all the computerization, there was no way to track a driver other than employee files to get a picture where the driver been. It was too time consuming to check all 50 states. So find out where they work and then check that way.

Now that all states are tied together they could do away with that rule and check for violations in a few clicks. Government red tape.

Most companies just use your DAC. That's whats happened to me in the past. One was decent enough to hand me the report once I hired on.

Contained an almost complete work history. Only one missing, didn't use DAC at all.

Why can't all states have the same bridge laws???
Why can't all states have the same oversize laws???
What about metric??? You need both 2 sets of wrenches to work on your truck or car.
It just goes on and on, nuf to drive you nuts....

Most of the major carriers will first pull your DAC. Unless something pops up that need further investigation that is about all they may do. Most will attempt to get something direct from former employers for the last 3 years.
