There are only three companies out of over 30 years worth I worked for still in business. Try checking that when they don't use DAC.

The three years w/ no gaps is also part of the Drug and Alcohol testing stuff. You are supposed to obtain the new hire's drug/alcohol testing and accident records within 30 days of putting a driver to work. If you do not get a response after 30 days you are supposed to stop using the driver until he gets the past employer to cough up the info.

That is what the DOT book and guideance says. I had enough background stuff that the DOT auditor didn't look that closely to see if I actually followed all the laws...

I've never told a driver to stop working if I didn't get something from every place he worked during the previous three years.

The auditor let me pick the files, she looked at 10% of the road drivers and wanted nothing from the 100 air mile guys. I knew which files I did not want her to see...

For drivers w/ more than 3 years experience the DOT want you to check just the driving jobs for years 4 to 10, not every one has a solid 10 years behind the wheel.

I am positive my current company did not check my previous employers, do a background check or check my driving record....they did give me a pre-employment drug screen. They are not a small company either. They did also wait for their insurance company to approve me before they let me drive.

Wow am I going to be in trouble. My company folded 2 years ago and I have not been able to make enough to file. If I return to the road it will be interesting to show what I have done.

Log books and inspection reports? I fill out a log at home every night even though it is not required since I am an air mile driver, just for the purpose of having proof of my driving history....granted it may never help me but I figure at $3.00 its cheap insurance. Also a good way to keep track of my hours encase the company I work for tries to screw me.

The 2 companies I have worked for only asked for my yearly tax (3 years prior) report for verification.

Originally I thought it was for a fleet lease application.

They need the previous ten years to be sure you're old enough to drive!:biggrin_2559:
