SOUTHERNPRIDE great post. It's like this, I call it the sheepification of a people by it's gooberment. This has been going on for a long time. They give us all the info we need to exist and support them.Communist Russia was like this, you served the state, thats all. But history has shown us that even the sheep rise and revolt against the master. As long as the economy is the way it is,with a great surge of newbies, some homeless, the industry will be fed drivers that will comply and bend to the taskmasters whip as long as they have a rolling roof and a few dollars to spare.
Last year I worked for the limp weener company called Covenant, after endles layovers, some lasting upto 6 days at a truck stop, I returned my truck and went home.Do I regret this? NO.
There is no satisfying the company and the law when more and more regs are put on you, and your wallet gets thinner and thinner. Those drivers that go to a company like swift are a great example. I heard one boasting that he was making .22 cents per mile and he was thrilled that he was getting great miles and had a spiffy truck too! These are the drivers that kill the industry. And they are lined up like chickens at feeding time.Waiting for that mobile home, and the great pay.
Why a strike? The CSA 2010 will cripple trucking.

Ah yes more pitiful driver's incapable of earning a living because the big bad evil DOT cop making sure their equipment is functional
There is still money being made. There are drivers doing it without donating to the coffers by actually following the law's established for our industry
What would wizened individuals like yourselves suggest? No oversight or regulation?
Yeah so we can increase the number of accidents
Glad your not taking time to understand the new programVastly increases the odds of removal of your authority
Of course your bragging of being an "OUTLAW" speaks volumes about your character in the first place. While some would look upon you with awe and wonder I will take you for what you admit to being.....
a criminal -
I no longer drive so calm down, take a deep breath and relax. No one is here to fight.
And when I drove it was all legal ,being that Covenant does not tolerate that bs.
An outlaw? yeah, when I was younger, I have put my attitude away since then.Last edited: Mar 27, 2010

He started his lecture by saying the reason for CSA 2010 is to keep us all safe on the roads. And mentioned the accident on I-65 near Lousville, KY that morning when a tractor trailer crossed the median and killed 11 people (including the truck driver)...
A driver in the audience told him the CSA 2010 is about money, not safety. Otherwise, why would they penalize experienced drivers, who may get some points on their record cards due to some old violations and tickets more than newbies who will have now points cause they have never driven a truck before.... CSA guy had no answer....
He gave a brief one hr presentation, gave us website where to get more info, where to check companies' safety records before applying for them, and how to check our own CSA records (I think there's a fee for that).
CSA 2010 starts on July 1. But DOT roadside inspections on April 1.
Don't have my notes here right now. Will add more info later.
I bought the CSA 2010 handbook. It has all the info, list of all violations with code numbers and scores, etc. Will read it later and pass on the info.
If only people/ drivers would participate more in the decisions that affect their lifes and jobs, maybe they would not be complaining so much now. But the sad fact is that they don't participate, they don't reach any agreement, there's no organization...
FMCSA was there all day yesterday listening to drivers' opinions, complains, and ideas on changes to HOS, among other things. Each person had 5 minutes or so to speak.
That was a great opportunity for people to participate in the rule making process. I wish the room were packed full but it was almost empty. Nevertheless, drivers would come to microphone and speak their mind.
FMCSA is asking for our input on several issues. We can contact them by email, phone, mail, fax.
Yes, when people don't participate, government takes over. Unfortunately, it seems that people in America are voting for more government control... -
Thx rocks, there has never been any real driver unity. There will be unity when they start cutting down drivers like wood for fire. Granted, there are drivers and even companies that need to be removed, but this program may cause more damage than good. The bad thing is that the experienced drivers with alot of years out there will be disqualified also. What will be left? New and inexperienced drivers? The accident like the one that just happened may become more & more prevalent. The worst part about this is that drivers that get axed will not get hired somewhere else, and this is really bad at a time when the economy and job market are spinning out of control.I hope that people don't go postal over this.......that is possible, people are stressed out to the max.
This is only my opinion, and I hope that I may be wrong.Rocks Thanks this. -
So does this CSA apply to a concrete mixer driving locally? My guess is yes, but probably wont have much trouble considering dot sets up only once in a great while here in town, and everyone knows where and when they're doing it so we avoid that road for the day. Lots of good post on here and very good reading, thanks everyone. Oh one other question would an overweight on axle ticket from sd be recorded on my record as points then? Also does everyone who has a cdl automatically get a profile on this csa thing?
-
As far as I heard it involves all CDL holders, and being overweight can rack up points.Just about anything that involves the truck, the driver and logging is affected by the CSA2010.But there are drivers more in the know than I am, so I will stop here before I get chastised for saying too much. All I know is that I am glad I don't drive...The beginning of this is going to be a turkey shoot....I heard of some companies letting high risk drivers go before it affects their rating....best of luck.
JustSonny Thanks this. -
But im guessing a small local concrete company isnt gonna feel many effects from it, but just a guess. This government and regs there putting on everything in our lives is ridiculous. I thought this was supposed to be a country based on freedom. New World order here we come where the US rules the whole world and controls everyone and everything you do, see, hear, feel, smell, think, ah what a great country where our own government flies fake planes into our towers to start a war. Ok ill stop...........
