Why are most flatbed tie down points rated so low?

I wonder why they have stake pocket twice with two different limits?

I wondered that too. I think I remember there being a second plate with diagrams next to it. I'm not sure.

some trailer manufacturers actually state on the data plates using two spools give a higher rating, just like the guy posted, basically in many cases 3/8 is just more weight

The 2 stake pocket ratings are different depending on the method used of attaching chains to them.
Example would be "hooking" a chain to one side of stake pocket so it creates torsion on it VS looping a chain around the pocket (like you would a pipe spool) where the chain creates
vertical pull on both sides of the pocket

Example to loop the chain around 2 stake pockets hooking the chain back to itself at a mid-point about between the two pockets in order to create a balanced torsion across both pockets? That does make sense to me if I have a clue.

We need pictures for this thread......any takers ? I used the common sense theory. Done flatbedding all my life. I have never been question on my securement methods at any scale. There been times I would be scratching my head cause of all the WLL regs, so I say the heck with it and throw some extra ties just to make it look good and cover my rear.

    Gottfried Thanks this.
