Everyone needs that one thing in life that makes them truely happy.

The problem is with the "me" generation. I see it at work. A new kid fresh out of college comes in thinking that he knows everything and that you don't know crap. You just want to say to them sit down and listen, you might learn something.

Ya know, there's a problem with that thinking.

People are resistant to change. Enough so, they dog people the effect it.

That "new kid" out of college comes in and is hired to DO A JOB. He might be up on more modern, effective and cost reducing ways that the old school in the shop might not be aware of.

I know. I was "one of those new kids". All them old school engineers were struggling for over 9 months to fix a machine to get it to stop burring parts. (Mind you we were dealing with a burr that only measured 1 to 2 microns. but it was there to be dealt with). I tried to suggest something and got shot down. We sat in an engineering meeting one morning and they were whining on how they couldn't solve this problem after 9 months.

I simply asked them if they had TRIED to chemical deburr it yet in the very next process which was an acid cleaning. They fought it for another 3 weeks. I finally just took their product, ran it and gave them a clean, no-burr material. It was solved in the time it took to walk 15 feet.

One "fresh college kid" had a fresh look at something and it solved a problem that could have saved over 10 months of process delays and millions of research and operating dollars.

I don't think any "kid" should be looked down upon.
