With my spread axle flatbed, if the shipper accurately describes the load, and loads it the way I tell him, I will never be over on an axle. At least not unless I'm over gross a lot. Since you can put 40,000 lbs on a spread, you could gross up to 86000 and still be legal on all the axles. So I would only need to check gross weight. No moving the axles or 5th wheel would ever be needed. That's one of the many reasons I prefer flatbed.

Was actually trying to help you steer clear of those evil sadistic flatbedders.

I have been following along, as I too am wondering "why" I find it truly fascinating what gets hauled on flatbed whether it is a normal skateboard config, drop deck, or heavy haul etc. Most of these loads look like works of art the way some you drivers have to secure and tarp them... I stand in awe! So I am researching this side of trucking, as I believe I would find it more rewarding than just opening and closing doors at some distribution center (or other delay type customer). I have been enjoying Drop Down 69's thread of his travels... a very eye opening read, and recommended for those not currently reading it.
Broke Down 69, Lepton1 and insipidtoast Thank this. -
