why can't i get over 14 volts

    If the voltage sensor wire is bad or broken, the alternator will not put out any more than 13.8, so then once it is under load will be less than that.

    I had personal vehicle that's was regulated thru computer. During day when nothing on it would should 12.5-12.8 but if turned on lights it would automatically go up to compensate for more usage. Dealership said this makes batteries live longer because not overcharging so keeps even battery. I'm guessing if in truck or car same principle occurs.

    Endedup being a bad ground at back of alternator, ,running 14.0 no load,13.8 with lights,a/c,inverter and fridge
