    sure....im no expert, just how i was taught by mav....i like the way they taught to do stuff...i usually met there exprctations- then did what I wanted to feel comfortable.
    shingles they wanted;
    trip chain on deck-front/back pallet
    2 straps on front stack/same on back stack
    single strap on middles
    edge protectors

    but whatever works for ya....Im noone to judge, thats for sure.

    I always trip chain pallets. If it is a eye to the sky coil I put a chain on the coil with a coil pad under it. If the chain touches the product and not just the pallet it counts as a securement. On shotguns I put a block of wood against the coil with a pad under it. You can also use a edge protector on each end and horseshoe the chain around the front and back and it does the same as a coil block. I always over secure maverick's policy and they are more strict than other co's, but it is my life and those around me. If I roll that truck a couple times I want the load where I put it.:biggrin_25520:

    if i see a skateboard w/ anything that might be considered faulty securement, i always say somethin to him, if he blows me off, at least i know i tried to help (and i've yet to NOT offer help in gettin securement fixed) every once in a while we get loaded by untrained loaders, or just have a brain fart, ive seen pics in safety meetings of trucks that got wiped out because they had one 3/16" chain (4700# securement) on a 43,000# coil, the only thing left on the tractor was the frame rails!!!!

    i was usually the butt of jokes for taking hours to tarp and secure, but you have to think "if i do a crash stop, whats holding this back??" especially pipe loads where theres no way to throw a strap around the front to keep the load from sliding forward (you can pick my truck outta the bunch there!!! 6 chain belly wraps and 12 4" straps, i aint lettin it breathe!!), on eyes to the sky coils, a strap around the front and one around back and the x over the top would be highly recommended.

    some drivers will take being reported as "tattling", frankly, you are saving their lives or the lives of the motoring public by pointing out potential hazards

    isnt the reg that for vertical hold down that the securement be 50% of the net load and that the rearward securment (the part that holds the load from sliding forward 80%??
    this is so not a criticism, just got the math thing stuck in my head here...
    45,000# coil, 50% vertical hold down would be 22,500#or.. using the 8,000# chains, a minimum of 3 chains (24,000#s securement), the rearward securement would be 36000#s for a minimum of 5 chains (40,000#s securement) thats still only 8 chains, most companies i know dish out 12 chains per truck so.... still got an additional 32,000#s of securement to use

    one way ive gotten around NY DOT is to chain the mess outta the coil like normal, but to not strap under, but rather strap OVER the tarps so that while it is contributing to the securment (i know.. straps arent the best, but if i have 12 strap by god im gonna use em!!!!) you can tell the NYDOT guys that the straps are for the tarp and if they actually look, you have wayyyy more than enough chains to be legal
