I depends on what you haul and what type of coverage you need for your operation... Boss says there are only 3 insurance companies in the nation with the type of coverage and bonding options we need for HazMat and the enviromental side... So, they can squeeze him pretty hard and they know it... Plus it costs big time to switch over... and now the have a 5 year grace between them.... Meaning he cannot just jump from one to the other say, every year.
It's a very different story if your a skate outfit, reefer, or pull 30 to 40,000 around in a box.
Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

My company only does hazmat.

So running hazmat only seems like you'd want to run eLogs. It's a tool that you can use to help prove your compliance to get lower insurance rates and will help you in court assuming an accident. Elogs could be your best friend!

My company too... and it's a big problem

Well, it just wouldn't work. Not with the games the terminals play with product. If we went to e-logs and were required to still do the same work... and things were the same as they are at terminals... diesel and gas prices would soar to well over $5.00 a gallon... and fuels stops would plain and simple run out by about 4 o'clock... This would effect the whole industry... and the Nation as a whole within a month if they required e-logs. The fix would be to open more fuel terminals in the midwest... with at least 2 more interstate pipelines... but of course, this would take years.

Per the new highway bill, passed by Congress and signed by the President, the FMCSA must publish rules and regs for EOBRs in one year and all Carriers will have to adopt them within two years, after the regs are adopted.

Yeah, I'm aware of this and many of us have been talking about it. I think the powers that be will get a education when it does happen. All trucking will be affected by this, as they will simply run out of fuel and pay a lot more for it(obviously driving the prices of goods up) It would be a economic disaster, that would happen very quickly... Many of us suspect that soon after this goes into effect, there will be exemptions for fuel haulers within the month. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Yes and no. For some of the reasons you stated , my company is currently switching. I am now running a XATA unit. It's not that bad, but there are drawbacks.

I've always loved the "Doom and Gloomers". They have entertained the masses for years.
snowblind Thanks this. -
I love that we have gotten exemptions the last 2 or 3 winters. It hasn't even been cold or snowy . But big oil cries and the rules change!
