Ok lets talk about a high horse!!! Are we in agreement that illegal is illegal no matter what you run whether E-logs or paper? Yes okay then their are 9 out of 10 guys on here preaching they love E-logs and how you get caught so easily if you go "over" your hours while running them. Yet these same drivers have stated that they park outside or down the road from a reciever and go on their 10hr sleeper break and in the morning they just put the truck into gear and slowly go across the street and back up to a dock and since they never got over a certain speed or travel far enough distance then they just go back into the sleeper and the darn computer never shows they interrupted their break and THERE FOR JUST BROKE THE HOS REGULATIONS........... Oh wait we were just in agreement that ILLEGAL IS ILLEGAL. Oh I know now there is a difference because as long as YOU run E-LOGS ILLEGAL is okay but for the paper guys ILLEGAL is ILLEGAL know matter what. Now I gotcha..........

Yes, illegal is illegal. However, an e-log will not allow a common practice with paper logs, backing the times up. With an e-log, it is not possible to run 650 miles in 15 hours, because of a delay, and show it in 10 or 11 hours.
-
So then what you are saying is that NEITHER paper nor e-logs are good for the industry since they both allow drivers to run illegal? Both ways to log allow drivers to break the HOS if they want to. What would you suggest the "GODS OF TRUCKING" enforce for every truck driver to log legally and not allow any way possible for a driver to run illegal?

volvodriver01 Thanks this.

dont forget, the stated objective is safety! -
As a driver what would you think would be a good alteration to HOS. They will never go away but how would you change them if you had the power to work for both long haul and regional work.
If we stick with the same 14 on duty clock, would you prefer a system more like Canada where we are allowed up to 13 hours of driving.
Or stick with the same 11 hour driving clock.
Would you prefer to be able to better break up your off duty time still at 10 hours. Say a mandatory 8 or 6 hour block and allow people to log the remaining hours during the day if the would like a rest.
A rule allowing you to have an extra hour or two of driving in a 7 day block to allow you to adjust for delays.
I would say the biggest concession that driver's would have to make to avoid having E-logs mandated on them is to get rid of a loose leaf log book. -
