Actually, elogs are a new regulation. If the law goes into effect, then it will be a mandate that everyone who owns a class 8 truck must buy an elog recorder and pay a monthly fee for the privilege. There will be no choice if the law stands. Until recently, elogs were not mandated.

Again you prove my point. It just a different recording device. Right now you pay for paper logs when the change over happens you will pay for e-logs, no new reg!

The hos did not change. Forcing owners to buy an EOBR is a new law or regulation. Before this legislation, we had a choice of whether we would use paper or and EOBR. We no longer have this option if the law stands.

You're exactly right. The CDL was gonna fix the trucking industry. CSA doesn't make you safer. When the violation points for lights out count more than worn steering linkage, there is a slight brain fart going on. As for logging, you as the driver are the only person who knows his limits and these yahoos that keep touting this crap about outlaw logging need to realize that if you are tired, YOU need to speak up and say you can't do the load instead of touting all this good sleep you're getting now with your elog. I'm all about running as legal as possible but if you think e logs make you a safe driver, guess you never should see an e log truck in a wreck. It's just another way to weed the guys who've been out here out of the business so they can hire cheaper labor.

That sounds good, but if you've been driving as long as you say you and everyone else knows how they keep asking and we do it. You can't say you haven't because you would be lying. I quit US Xpress because I was told "sleep was not an option."

E-logs are more of a pain on management than us because now they have to do there job and plan ahead. It's nice to be asked for logs and I tell them I'm on e-logs then they say OK your good. Why is that because I CAN"T FUDGE A DAYS WORK! They see some of our driver's logs and see we are complaint. With paper Tyson was not so lucky. They had a bad rap with DOT.

Look on OOIDA's website just about every week another company owner is going to jail because of drivers driving illegal. The owners and drivers are both at fault. If the drivers were on e-logs it would be easier to catch before a lot of wrecks but most likley they wouldn't run illegal in the first place. Most companies have seen a decrease in wrecks after switching because drivers are stopping and not driving on through. All it takes it ONE death and your life will change. You can go to jail for driving that extra 100 miles to get to that place you like to park if you have a wreck and someone dies. The "I was safe" line will not hold up in court.

And yes I do get more rest running e-logs and more pay. I have yet to see a reason not to use them. All I see are excuses people want to make up because they know with paper they can keep running illegal thinking they can make more money. That's all it boils down to. I've been there done that and never want to back.

Yes they have found a loophole in the system however a driver on paper logs do you think he is logging the break in his sleeper time, or just backing up and heading back to the sleeper just like the guy on elogs.

Well msheets I highly doubt usxpress told you sleep wasn't an option. But if they did, how could they force you? You are probably the same type who would chain up because the load had to go. E logs are fine and dandy but even at swift and crete they aren't exact. Swift has a big link in here about telling the drivers what on duty time is or isn't. It's simple, if you are sitting in the seat, you're on duty. They aren't logging that. Crete gives their drivers an hour or up to 25 miles of personal time. Where are those exemptions listed in hos? They're not. So good for you and your elogs. Glad you like them. I personally don't need a dispatcher or a law enforcement officer to tell me when I am sleepy. Evidently you do.
