It's not an excuse. Get out of the office, get a cdl and get into one of your trucks and deal with the same issues your drivers do and you'll get a different outlook.

Davis out of Florida used to be one of those companies you had to wait for someone to die before you could be hired

now they cant keep anyone longer than a week

i guess this is good business practice to force good drivers out and make them use elogs

    go figure

Just because a driver has points on their PSP, or a mark on their DAC doesn't mean they're a bad or unsafe driver. Oftentimes drivers are uneducated as to how to do things the right way. A vast majority of the industry is broken, or people get lost in the massive companies and fall through the cracks. That doesn't mean those people are unworthy of driving truck, or even that they're unsafe. It just means they were subject to poor circumstances and probably handled them poorly. We do have a certain criteria that we feel is unacceptable, and we've weeded out drivers that I know have gotten jobs at other "safer" companies.

We are very loyal to our senior drivers. Heck we have a few that have been around long enough that they kind of run a dedicated routes, when they feel like it. Some guys run 1 or 2 weeks a month because that's all they want to do. We have another guy that schedules his own pick ups and deliveries and the company notifies us after the fact.

I'll leave you with one final example, we had a dedicated recovery driver getting paid 1500/week plus expenses. He got to the point where he wanted back in his lease because he was making more money that way, and not quite as bored.

well like I said, you pay your drivers salary or by the hour enough that he brings home at least $1500 a week (take home pay) and your need for e logs disappear overnight.

And with the work ethic of some people there goes your productivity.

Or take away E-logs and Eobrs and if a driver gets an HOS violation he loses his job and loses his CDL. There are way too many drivers out here as it is which allows these CDL mills to keep churning them out and adding more trucks. Lets weed out the bad without E-logs. Very easy to do. What I keep hearing through all these pages of discussions is that E-logs nor EOBRs enforce safety or compliance. They are merely for the safety department at these Company's so their jobs are easier and they know what goes on with the drivers they hire and how they drive the trucks. Yes we hear you E-log guys that are saying E-logs make your job of logging easier but what you need to hear from us paper guys is that there is NO reason for them to put mandated on us. It is a choice whether you like to take the easier way out if you think thats what its doing. Just because E-logs make someones job easier doesn't mean they need forced upon everybody.

It's alive, but off the charts. It might be confused and in need of some life coaching, but it's certainly not dead.

that goes back to knowing who you hire. But that is the ultimate cop out to me. Who does the work for the trucking company? Safety, nope. Dispatchers? Nope. Load Planners? Nope. The driver does. Without him there is no need for any of the other yet now he has no work ethic. Of course everyone in the office has a great work ethic...that's why they couldn't do our job.
