Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

I'd say our drivers have above average miles for the industry.

amazing how many companies make that claim, and each of them are listed here as "BAD companies"

meltom, i guess we have beat this horse to death, you sound like nice guy, but as with most corporate stuff, you have gotten lost in the statistics

hopefully, drivers will begin to realize the liberties they have given up by going with elogs, before the industry brings the next set of technology toys to beat us into submission

Well making $60,000 to $65,000 with 8 paid holidays, 2 weeks paid vacations and my medical insurance and $350,000 worth AD&D only costing me $25 a week. I'm happy knowing the facts about E-logs and being a company driver.

 

Yea 2 weeks vacation would be a deal breaker for me as I take roughly 3 months of time off per year. Not paid at the time per say but the 9 months I do work pays enough for the 3 months worth of vacation. And I don't have the headache of running E-logs or having someone griping at me for something they don't like. I knew I became an owner op for a reason. I don't even do this stuff to my drivers and I believe they respect me alot more for that. But like I have stated if E-logs are your cup of tea then who's to say otherwise. I will stick to paper and driving for myself as I like to control myself.

 

If I ever had to again I would drive a company truck but definatly not on E-logs. I think I would hang up my CDL in a picture frame on the wall and keep my good memories of not having a computer in my truck and knowing I did my job the good ol way. I prefer guys that are willing to push the envelope. Its easier to reign someone in than it is to whip them to work harder.

 

One problem that I see in this industry is there is too much reliance on technology. Drivers are forgetting how to think for themselves. If drivers rely too much on their technology and it fails, which it will, then they don't know how to function. I have met some drivers who don't even know how to find a shipper without their gps. I spoke with one driver who had become so reliant on his gps that he didn't know how to read a map.
