If there is a need to carry a paper book in the cab of the truck then that defeats the purpose of the E-log and therefore there shouldn't be any need to use an E-log. It really is a shame to have fellow drivers that don't give two chits about the industry. Most of your E-log loving guys are the ones that pull dry boxes around wearing sweatpants and flip flops and smelling like crap because they are "lazy" and love running E-logs. The trucking Industry is not a profession for the "lazy" hearted individuals. Trucking is working class and if you are "lazy" then hit the door.(pun intended).

So what is the big deal, and all the volleying back and forth? If and when it comes to be (mandated)...we all agree it is at least 4-5 years down the road....so why all the fuss right now? There are many more "important" immediate issues that face us....like the clerical workers strike at the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports....supported by the longshoremans union....the port has been shut down all week....40% of all trade for the US comes through these two locations....not this week and this is going to have a trickle down effect to most all of us.
My wife read me a Facebook entry of one of my son's grade school friends just now...let me share it with you:

Yes you're required to carry a log book because e logs actually mess up and go down. It's rare but happens. Mine have messed up several times, i have to switch over to paper, but the real flaw is when you do that, you now don't have any record available for DOT for that day, you just have what you have on paper. it is an extremely flawed system.
