No, they aren't being mandated. The rumors of them being a mandate are just that. Rumors. Anyway, Elogs aren't the issue that should be debated. The issue at hand is the HOS regs, not the Elogs. Blaming Elogs is like blaming the gun for killing someone.
Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

Watch it now Ghost Ryder, no point in bringing common sense to a good argument.
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
A battle of witts with a unarmed opponent must be the norm around here then.

I too don't believe they will be mandated anytime soon. Like I have stated they can't force us to buy the systems and they do no good for the industry. E-logs are just a tool for the ones suppose to enforce the regulations so they can save time and money. Thats it. Less work. Bottom line. I will agree with you that the HOS should be changed but Elogs are not needed in our industry period. If some like using them then okay as they are a tool for you but they are in no way something that should be mandated upon us.
-
And they aren't being mandated. Why are we even having this discussion then?
On a side note, it is possible to run legally on paper. If you run legally on paper, a Elog won't make a bit of difference on you. And don't say it's because you hate electronics, because that would be a flat out lie. You wouldn't be posting on this forum if you did. -
rules that are bird-brained in the first place
if drivers would drive when they are rested, sleep when they are tired, the world would be a better place
elogs dont fix that, because many eloggers say they are forced to drive when they are tired, a ONE-SIZE fits all cannot workvolvodriver01 Thanks this. -
Again again, it's not the Elog. It's the HOS regs. No one is forcing you to drive a truck, so feel free to quit since you feel the rules don't apply to you. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

i tried that
not a conformist, no matter what industry i try -
If you take a minute to read the title of this thread is states "Why CSA2010 and E-logs a good thing". I am stating the point that E-logs are not a good thing. What are you doing since they aren't being mandated? Why are we having this conversation? The only reason I will not run an E-log is the simple fact that the current state of this industry doesn't call for them. There is absolutely no reason other than time saving (as some might try to say) to even have the darn things. I can fill out a paper log faster than a guy running E-log can push his buttons. Just remember while your stuck down the road from your house or 20 minutes from your reciever you can not move your truck as personal conveyance if you have a trailer loaded hooked to you. Yes I know alot of you do anyway which is a violation of the HOS that the darn E-log is suppose to catch.
I know the number is higher than this but lets just say the 50% of you guys that run E-logs park outside your reciever the night before so all you have to do is roll into the yard and get unloaded in the morning. I know at least 50% of you don't switch your E-log over to driving while moving just inside the gate to get unloaded or loaded. This is a violation of your HOS. I bet more guys cheat while running E-logs than those of us running paper. By cheat I am not talking about running 36 hours without sleep because nobody does that crap anymore. Cheating is Cheating you the E-logs are set up to allow alot of it to happen.. -
Whats sad is it IS A RIGHT. To many people just give in and allow it to be treated as a privilege. Driving has been around way longer than some douche making up "rules".
