Me. Of course driving these simple contraptions pales to actually operating equipment. Went from hauling our stuff on the farm to our stuff from feed mills, to hauling for others from feed mills...........Shut everything down one weekend after a meeting with a major shipper went south. Hiredd on with a local grain company, got bored went to Barr- Nunn, and quit because they felt home time declaration. Actually meant requested time home. Also moved from Florida while with them back to families area in Tn so I guess equal blame could be applied. Went to work at Big G Express and lasted about six months before offering night dispatch the opportunity to repeat a phone conversation to my face. He declined and I was advised to take a week off to decide if I wanted to continue there. Hell I knew I had left the minute that punk said his piece.
Decided to hell with trucking until my daughters vice principal and I got to talking and he introduced me to Tommy. Been here ever since.
But I get were you are going. And I would be in favor of having a real test(not that #### joke they do now a real test with skid pad, up hill down hill stop start, square backing, actual equipment training, simulated jack knife scenarios........
In short a real test proving competence of operating fore going training. Of course I would still get my training wish then because now they would have to know how to actually operate the equipment just to pass the test. I would still keep the graduated license system though. Kinda like Captains, Engineers and Pilots I believe drivers should start smaller and move up in distance and size of moving equipment.
Yes I know that is an entire paradigm shift of how new drivers are brought in. Yes schools(which should be independent of any company in my opinion) will have to work harder and screen harder to get students their license. Yes they will charge more. But I believe that is the only way to shift this from just needing someone with a pulse to actually having compitent qualified drivers behind the wheel. Go apply to sail a boat, run a train, or fly an airplane. That is the level a commercial driver should be under. Not the Kmart blue light specials they hand out now. -

It is about time. Now these drivers can pay more attention when the 4 wheelers go across 3 lanes of traffice while on their cell phone.

that's just going to be a matter of time, don't ya think? It's easier to pass regulations against a regulated industry than it is to pass laws against the general population.

Isn't it a paradox that most drivers consider the shorter, regional routes to be more desirable and generally pay more (according to a lot of posts) than long haul OTR?
You are advocating giving the more desirable jobs to people who have not yet earned them, forcing the more experienced drivers to spend days and weeks away from home.
And, you think everybody needs to go through extensive training and testing you did just fine without. According to you, Tazz, you have a good record. According to your logic, you should have killed entire families by now, due drectly to a lack of regulation on the industry...that will have no effect on you.

Prolly all in all. We should wait an call back like the other day was on the gw. Bridge an the cross bronx xprswy wasn't bad of course it was 1 am in so u know its allways eazy going then butt if u r driving thru iowa an braksy an them kinda of states it is completly different then drivin thru dc or houston or hotlanta during rush hour
