The thing your forgetting is everyone gets the same points for the same violations. The playing field is level.

Because that makes too much sense and takes away a cash cow for them.

It's so asinine and ridiculous that is doesn't even make sense.

Well I can't tell you a blanket yes or no. I watch the truck for at least 1/2 or 3/4 of mile to see what he is doing. Most of the time I am behind the truck a few cars back and can see what they are doing. Are they out passing others? Did they have to get over to avoid something and then get back as soon and safe as possible? For me it's more than just you were there. I want to see what you were doing before I stop someone and see what their story is.

I wasn't trying to be a d***, I was asking what the scenario was. I can't help what he did, I just wanted to know the scenario, that was the devil's advocate part. Kinda hard to get the entire story from your original post.

I was taught about truck safety by tough old SOBs who were trucking in the 30's. Here are the deadly sins as they were drilled into my head.

    Following to closely.

Driving too fast (not just the speed limit, but taking into account load, weather, traffic, condition of the highway, or anything else)

Defective, inoperable , or out of adjustment brakes. Many truck accidents are a matter of a couple feet.

Improperly secured cargo. (the standard taught to me is, if you roll the truck the load should still be on the trailer when you stop rolling)

If I broke any of those rules I had some old SOB chewing me out for like a week. Sometimes they would even come to my house on Sundays to lecture me on how to be safe.

To this day I can't break "the rules" without having one of those old baztords come to life in my head and tell me I am an idiot.

I know they were right because every time I hear of a bad accident, one of the above rules have been broken.

When I see things like tailgating, speeding, brakes out of adjustment, carrying a lower severity rating than a nail in a tire or a marker light out,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I just got to wonder if the guys running this CSA show are smoking crack

Chrome, I know the formula but where do I get the factors like the nail, the light, the tire and the severity of each ?

If I understand it correctly if you are in a dot reportable accident you get the same points if it was your fault or not. So if I am driving down the road not paying attention and rear end the Sunshine family camper and you are sitting at a stop light and some 4 wheeler runs under your trailer we get the same points! No I dont think its level.

We had a safety guy from Pitt-Ohio come and talk to our company friday about csa. It is supposed to take affect tomorrow the 2nd but he said there was a court case trying to stop it. We'll see I guess.

I think some of what the csa is about is a good thing but for the most part like most gov. ideas they took it way to far. They want to improve safety I think thats great but the way they are going about it looks like they are more concerned about other things.

Truck drivers have been mad for years and talking about a strike. I wonder if CSA 2010 wont be the straw that breaks the camels back.
