Oh now there is some dinner reading material. Thankyou kindly.

BTW we do have some on hand. One bottle for the two of us and one for the neighbors who will not be in any position to go get it. The iodine.

    mhyn Thanks this.

Igniting fusion devices without a fission trigger is one of those worse weapons being mentioned, making war less horrible, but it's becoming more in the realm of possibility.

Failsafe, which was long before this was made, is scarier, war being started by machines used to keep track of what is going on.

Wargames was very good, with a happier ending.
    Still illustrated the dangers well.

They played Failsafe which was a truly gripping epic.

A small part of me is not so sure we can empty Dyess, Minot, Whiteman, Wllsworth, Elemdrof, shreveport and mountain home in a timely manner if needed anymore. Some of them will be caught on the ground or on climb out

But one film I think stands tall.

Dr. Strangelove. It's a unfamiliar territory or a way of speaking for people today, but there is a method to his madness.

That movie was subtitled "how I stopped worrying and learned to love the bomb."

The Russians had built a doomsday weapon, which would be triggered by an attack that detonated nukes, the premise was a rogue wing commander launching a preemptive strike by a b52 bomber group, one of which had the callback code not receivable because of a near miss by defensive fire, that b52 was able to evade defenses and drop two bombs.

Great performances, Peter Sellers in multiple roles, Slim Pickens as the command pilot of the b52, George C. Scott as Air Force General Ripper of the Joint Chiefs. And many others that I could recall but want to keep this short. But who could forget Major Bat Guano?

back in 80's every SU solder and officer had first aid box. There were many first aid items, one bottle of iodine and 2 or 3 small glass ampules filled with morphine(for injection). I remember after every exercise the higher rank officers would check to see all morphine ampules are in boxes, not missing. Nobody would steal iodine )))

Morphine will kill or induce coma and kill after a certain LD50 is met.

Unfortunately what we have become since the 80's since then there are other drugs more dangerous than that one.

DEA testified to Congress today via CSpan that the temporary scheduling order on Fentanyal-Like Products will expire in 247 days time if Congress fails to pass Legislation to make it permanent.

When “The Day After” came out it had such an impact that even President Ronald Reagan took notice and it may have encouraged him to start talks with Mikhail Gorbachev on strategic nuclear weapons reduction.

Another good actor in the movie was a very young James Earl Jones (future voice of Darth Vader).
