Some people just like it better. We used to do some OTR work and one of the drivers requested to stay on it and to stay out as long as he could. He worked for us over twenty years. Good driver, Top hand.
When we got out of the OTR work he tried our local stuff for about two weeks and then he quit. He said the money was fine and the benefits were great but he just would rather stay out for for weeks at a time away from home.
He took a job with COTC...less money and inferior benefits...and the last time I saw him he was really .happy with it.
You guys already know the punch line to this. We ran into him and his wife at an Elks Club shindig. After meeting his wife I can understand why he wants to stay gone.

Different strokes for different folks ....I did the line haul ltl gig and the food service thing years ago and worked with some good people .
I however am happiest with my own truck leased to a good carrier running dedicated lanes for the same customers...and calling my own shots with the ability to say yay or nay.
That's the good thing about trucking , its many faceted with something for everyone.
Many otr people would be bored to tears with what I do ...same places and lanes every trip .

I spent too much money on a nice home and bed to not enjoy it. I could maybe manage a regional deal but I think day cabs are just cooler looking lol.

I have a wife & two little dogs at home.

    ..... And this here too.....
I just like to be home every day. I really enjoy my days out there on the road, in that truck, alone. During the day, the wife is at work & the dogs are asleep. At night......... its all about family, winding down & relaxing. Then sleeping in my own bed........ with my wife & my two dogs. :D

OTR aint for me at all. A night out here & there aint too bad, but I prefer being home.

Other way around for me. I went back to OTR from everything else. OTR is like a vacation to me.
