There are a few reasons either way that cause this to happen....

    reasons on the driver....

    1) Inexperienced
    2) In too much of a rush
    3) Just doesn't care....

    reasons on the environment....

    1)Limited room
    2) Stinkin' four wheelers in the way...
    3) Avoiding some other hazard....

When I was training, they discouraged us from dragging the trailers over curbs and sidewalks, but at the same time, acknowledged that sometimes there's no choice...This past January when I was still at my last job, I was helping them move to their new facility. The last turn onto the street they were on was fairly tight, and I took pride in the fact that in about 20 trips through the intersection, I only had to use the sidewalk a few times....There was a telephone pole about 45 feet from the apex of the turn, so if you used the sidewalk too much, you had to hope there were no four wheelers coming the other way because you needed the whole other lane to keep the trailer off the pole...This was with a daycab and a 45 foot flatbed...I've often wondered if they've gotten any calls from shingle carriers that have drivers that can't make the turn because they have longnose Pete's with full sleepers or some other kind of tractor that does'nt turn too well.....:biggrin_25519:

Freebird, your question should be,"Why do truckers run over huge boulders sitting near the grassy area close to driveways at truckstops"? And then, why do they yank said boulder out onto the travel lane and keep going? Or better yet, "Why do they back into chain link fences at truck stops and flatten them"? Answer: Because they are too lazy to get out and look and they do not realize that they have a 53' trailer behind them. Kinda scarey, huh.......

I seen a s---t driver that ran his trailer tires over and on top of a concrete wall divider and put the divider between the duals, bet they had fun getting that trailer off there, he cut the corner to short.Oh and that corner had room if you made a wide swing which he didnt.

Heh ... In a past life I used to drive a 3 axle W900b with a 285in wb trailing a 5 axle RGN. The only way into one of our tiny satelite offices was around back in a narrow alley way, with a wash (think big concrete dry riverbed) on one side of the alley, and a "high dollar" chain length fence for a auto repair shop on the other. It was off a very busy 35mph 2 lane with an idiot lane in the middle road. I would hit the hazards about a half mile from the turn. Turn em off. Run the right hand blinker, swing out through the idiot lane, into oncoming traffic ........... and 9 times out of 10 some moron in a four wheeler would try to squeeze between me and the curb. I prolly curb checked atleast 20 cars in any given week.

After a year performing this dog and pony show multiple times weekly ... my beautiful city decided to put in a nice 18 in curb and raise the side walk, instead of the 8in curb that was there ........... I got much more pleasure watching the "special people" destroy their vehicles on that curb.

Oh ... FYI for the origional poster. Never touched the fence, never whacked the concrete surrounding the wash, and never once got within 6 inches of a car (got off intimidating lots though) .... some of us can drive.

............. But I did molest a Road Closed sign 2 weeks ago whle trying to get into a jobsite, stuff happens :)

the main one im talking about is heading northbound on post road in indianapolis and turning eastbound onto 30th street

the reason they dont make the turn is cuz they dont swing out and use the space they have, they just go and start turning right instead of going straight out then right

i might be a rookie but ive been driving a jockey truck since i was 18 and i know what a trailer is gonna do

    Hey Freebird,

There could be all kinds of reasons. Some mentioned already. Others, came up on their turn too quickly and just cut the wheel.
Don't care if they jump the curb.
    Lazy...

And Redd, why are you jumping all over this guy. Who cares if he says he can do it or not, it is not a personal attack on you, but you sure seem to be taking it that way.

i agree with the above 2 posts.....i dont know why this guy jumped all over me, dont really care either

i can make the turn, anybody with a CDL CAN make the turn (i hope), for some reason they choose not to, maybe underestimating it or somethin
