Your right about who is behind it. ATA has been pushing for all trucks governed at 65 long before they where pushing for e-logs.

According to one study that I read, most accidents occur at lower speeds than while traveling at higher speeds, at least in a big truck.

anyone other than me notice that on the rear of EVERY fedex trailer that just happens to be riding in the middle lane impeding traffic flow is the sticker proclaiming " PROUD MEMBER OF THE ATA?" -
Heck FedEx is one of the fastest out here. The FedEx freight are all O/O if I am not mistaken ?

Buddy of mine has his truck on at Custom Critical. He keeps it around 62-63 for fuel savings and FedEx is really strict about speeding tickets.

i don't know but i do know that this question is custom tailored for gpsman. isn't he a safety person for a mega?rockee Thanks this. -
My company just recently from 64 mph have reduced my truck speed to 60 mph on cruise ,on pedal I can go 63 mph. This action devastated my income with US Hours of service with high impact .
Im very upset ,but I cant do much about it .The electronic logbook and low speed combination makes this job good only for single young man who lives with his parents or part time retied people
In the first week I can make some money but the next there no hours to drive at all ,I mean 9,7,6,etc
In Year 2005 I was making 5000 thousand dollars a month before taxes now ,its 3000 thousand and I'm working twice harder now with lots of shorter runs but connecting them to keep them as a continuous
Most company trucks of North states have governor set to 60 mph ,not much choice , -
I Drive a 62 mph truck, work 4 days a week, 2000 miles a week, and make 70000 a year. That's why I tolerate a governed truck.

I ran a 65 mph truck, actually 64.5 mph and made plenty of money, $80k my last year with an LTL outfit running night time line haul. I'm now running tankers and roll off boxes during the day time hours now, 64 mph truck, hourly and will make @$65k my first year here. I agree that running OTR with a slow truck sucks but one should be able to get really good at time management and learn to keep the left door shut to maximize driving hours thus maximizing your pay or go broke or find a better job.

i agree with all points made
its funny how common sense and fairness for what we do is looked at as radical thinking, BY FELLOW TRUCK DRIVERS
the point being made is, if you are being paid by the mile, you should be able to drive as many miles as you can, safely
otherwise, you are running a race with a ball and chain around your legs
i dont know why that is such a hard concept to graspx#1 Thanks this. -
Stop driving for mileage pay. Solved.
