Why do most mega otr carriers want you gone so long?

    Seriously..... Those people drive large vans. Like the airport ride share stuff. Or small buses for whatever reason. Usually Class C. no air brakes

    i was looking at the license classes in ny. there is such a thing as an L restriction, no air brakes on class A and class B. what a useless license. class A with a air brake restriction LOL

    People like me probably ruin things for folks like you. I have no problem working 12-14 hours a day, and stay on the road for 40-50 days at a time. Though, I have to mention that when I'm running good, that does mean that I have to take a full day off every week to do a 34 because my 70 hour clock is gone in 5-6 days. Then I get another day per week when I get back to the house, though I usually only stay home 4 days no matter how much time I have built up.

    True; many drivers like living on the road. There's other choices if one doesn't like being on the road for long periods of time.

    Heard an interview with one guy who never takes a 34. Doesn't take home time. His company has asked him if he has a home. Company only requires him to do 400 miles in a day. He'll drive for 8 hours 15 minutes. Plus his two 15's for inspection. He runs from very early morning, till about noon. Says it's pretty nice with 15 hours a day off. Less stress.
    Realistically....he's taken about three (?) 34's in the past year or ten months (forget which).

    Not alot...why not learn how to shift gears? Really isn't that hard and I drove both regularly. With winter coming I would rather have a 10 speed since my company buys cheap ### autos where we can't select gears.

    To the OP - it sounds like classic 48 OTR is not for you, especially if you have/want housing payments and expenses and perhaps family.

    The answer is really simple, work for a local or regional fleet.

    Hometime at a full service OTR fleet is costly in multiple ways and for all parties concerned.

    Nope working the equivalent of a 5 day work week is never to much to ask;)

    As for the cdl A with air brake restiction. All the 1tons, 450’s, 550’s, etc have to have class A’s. These guys have no need for air brakes, and most no way to take the test in a truck with them.

    The auto only restriction tho, now that is a waste. Other than the ata & megas with their lobbying power, i don’t see how that restriction ever even became a thing. The whole idea of that is ludicrous.

    It's like this due to company greed. It wasn't always this way. When I first started long haul it was 7 to 10 days out home for a couple or few days. Then slowly it grew to 7 to 14 then 14 to 21 days and beyond.
