Sounds about right. I'd have to make some excellent money to be away from home

I look at it differently. I dont have to pay rent because im on the road and basically will live in the truck. Thats a substantial savings right there. I plan on doing this and banking 80% of my earnings to buy a piece of land and build a small house in the country for myself.

Seriously? I'm certainly no baby boomer, that was my parents generation. And if i could make it in this world and build a life for myself and my family, there is no reason anyone else can't. Every single one of my failures, and set backs was my fault. Not because it's "harder" today. And on the flip side, every single one of my successful ventures, was my responsibility. Not because i got lucky, or was given advantages others didn't get.

You could also only eat nutritional supplements, not have a cell phone and internet, and not enjoy life to save money.

Dude they all lie, half truths are lies.
And when you have people in the office that miss work, I can't buy into the story line they do everything they can to find you the best freight.
Everything you said boils down to dedicating yourself to the task, but if the people you're pulling for aren't equally dedicated, then your wasting time, rather than making the BIG settlement that week.
When your dispatchers desk looks a grenade hit it, and he or she is a 9 to 5 er, misses work, and is looking at 15 or 20 chick's with their mouths open, guess what, you're getting whatever worm gets you to shut up for the moment.

Actually yes you can. In many parts of this country a real nice house can be had for under 100 grand. But here is the kicker, it won't be 2500 or more sq ft. It's gonna be about 2k sq feet 1 bath starter home, just like the house your parents started with.

Yup and the average pay in those areas? Lets all guess shall we. I make ok money for my area, but im making twice the average of those who live 40 miles out. But i can tell you, when i was 20 i was suporting me my wife and my first kid on less than 15 bucks a hour, fast forward 20 years, 2 kids, same wife, same genral area, i make #### near twice that, not enough. The wife works 50 plus a week and i do 45 on average. I dont have credit debt, my pick up is 8 years old, we do well now, but if it was just my check? Not a chance. Yes personal responsibily excc.. is important but the simple fact is, its more exspensive to live, harder to borrow money, harder to get a better than entry level job, needlessly expensive to get a education that these days isnt worth the money paid for it.... and on and on...
