A man makes his own luck.

Had a driver near Griffin Georgia pick up a high dollar load going to Washington State one summer. Oversized, 11ft wide, 14000 lbs. Had to tarp it. He got there Friday morning, got loaded and tarped the load Friday evening. He heads out Saturday morning. I told him to be sure to be out of Tennessee before sundown. He tells me that he is going to stop in a truckstop to get something to drink. Well, it got dark on him and he stopped in the TA to the east of Nashville. Because of the TN OSOW regs, he couldn't move on Sunday. He didn't deliver that load until the following Friday.

Stuff like that aggravates me. It doesn't take all day to run from Griffin Georgia to Nashville. Especially when you have longer daylight hours of the summer. All he had to do was get into Kentucky (where you can run 24/7/365) by Saturday. He should have been somewhere in western Nebraska by Sunday evening. He should have delivered that load on Tuesday afternoon/Wednesday morning. Friday? Unacceptable. Especially for a high dollar load. I'm not talking about setting a new land speed record, I'm talking about staying in the saddle putting some miles behind you.

Then they blame the company or other people such as dispatchers. The ones I don't understand are the drivers that complain after they achieve what they wanted to achieve; such as, going through trucking company school to acquire the cdl and gain experience, then post on here bashing the company that gave them the start they were looking for. Why don't they man-up and just move on to the next step in their career which the company they're bashing put them in the position to now do that.

Ok it's gone up a bit. But is not like it's not doable like some are saying. Very few people have an income problem. They have spending problems.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. You think a cell phone isn't necessary in today's world? Good luck getting and keeping a job if they can't call you. Internet is also necessary to get any kind of decent job. How do you expect kids today to pay for college with a summer/part time job. It is literally not possible on the wages you can make in those kind of jobs. I commend you for doing your part as a husband and a father just try to understand its not as easy as it was in the 50s-90s. I've seen people who did everything right every one told them to do. Went in the military, the college, and now are struggling to find work and if they can its $13/hr. I don't get why its so hard for many older people to admit they had it easy. My dad told me that flat out when I was still living with him. He said not to feel ashamed because I don't have a place of my own because its not as easy as it was for him. I do agree with what you said about living within your means though.

I am 52 been self employed pretty much my whole life. I have won some , I have lost some.

Lately it is getting harder to figure out what is going to be a winner.

I have never had a spending problem, learned to be frugal growing up with a self employed father and 7 siblings.

We didn't go hungry but we didn't get everything a lot of less frugal families with fathers with high paying jobs got.
But my dad invested every dime in something else to have his money make money.
Anyways my dad is 86 and we have the conversation all the time .
I ask if he had to make money today what would he do.
He says he hasn't a clue.
Things have changed and not for the better.

The baby boomer generation got drafted and sent to Vietnam. Now tell me how hard it is today in comparison?

my kids think it is their god given right to eat out 5-6 times a week
and should have new cars and 3000 sq ft homes
just once they should make a budget and use that would be torture
and the biggest loser kid thinks because he has a masters degree he is better then me
i told him my working paid for his education
"But Dad you just ran fishing boats"
i shouldve drowned him at birth
