Perhaps I was lucky. During my stint for a year as a trainer for Swift every one of my trainees are still driving, some are doing quite well, all but one.
The one that quit driving altogether began with a serious misconception of his abilities and worth. That's a bad combination for success in any field. He wasn't a Spring Chicken. He was simply incapable of putting in a solid days work. If he took the wheel with no deliveries or pick ups, nothing to do but maximize miles on an 11/14, he managed to average 385 miles.
Yep, you read that right. He considered 7 or 8 hours driving in a 14 hour shift at dangerously slow speeds to be a full days work.
Gotta stop to get chicken gizzard for a snack and talk to his fiancee or one of his girlfriends on the phone. Gotta stop for lunch, or use the bathroom, or stretch his legs, or, or, or...
During training he went on and on about how he was promised a position on a dedicated run from Van Nuys, CA to Phoenix, where he could be home every weekend. The catch was it involved three round trips totalling 2500 miles that had to be done between the wee hours of Monday morning and Friday afternoon. I tried to explain to him that his method of "working" wasn't going to get him hired on that account, but what did I know?
This is a job. That's a shock to some new drivers. It isn't like taking a road trip in your car.
Why do most new drivers quit?

Exactly, with the internet today there's no reason not to do a quick search about a company. My dad and a few other relatives are drivers so I had a lot more knowledge about the industry than the average driving school graduate. Sage in endicott ny where I went to get my cdl is a really good. All the instructors are old school guys mostly in their 60s. Small classes and they are very patient with you. You will walk out with your cdl

I'm going on 4 weeks out. Been through every ####ing mountain range and national Forrest in the nation in January I think.
This is a good company, you can make good money, but I'm going back to my super regional out of Phoenix so I can be home more. It's a few hundred a week less, and gets a little boring, but I have a 34 starting every Saturday afternoon, and I'm home for half a day during the week, and atm I really need to be there, or I'd stay here.morpheus Thanks this.
