I have a very good freind that turns those kind of miles every week with no DOT violations. How he logs it I dont know but he doesnt have any problems and yes he has had More than one DOT audit.
Why do most owner operators fail?

4000mi in a week is 700mi a day, for six days
it has to do with time management, there are even some elog guys that have done it, its not impossible, -
Our friend clearly states that he runs his 4000 miles in 5 days and not six. He also does his own deliveries , one a day between 8 and 5.
-
My freind does it in 5 or 5.5 but he doesnt do a delivery every day thats for sure. I'am to lazy for all those miles personally.

Rollin Coal - you said you rarely take a 10 hour break. I don't know what you're going to do if EOBRs are mandated.
I on the other hand pretty much keep it legal most of the time. Or at least try to make it look legal. I'm the type that can do an 18 hour day if/when needed but sometimes a 10 hour break is not enough. With my current job, I do 3,600 miles a week, every week, from Detroitland to McAllen to Laredo and back up north. I leave on Monday about 2pm and get back Saturday about 6pm. It's a lot of driving, week in and week out, and I most of the time don't take any time out of my day to take a break - just stop to use the bano, grab Subway, fuel if needed, and go. And then when I'm done with my shift I spend 2-3 hours on the internet and then sleep about 8-9 hours. I need more relaxation time at the end, and when I go home Saturday night (its another hour drive home in my pickup truck), I spend that time at home relaxing and hardly getting out of bed.
I have thought about what you said about taking loads at night - wondering if a broker is posting something that has to be picked up, and 95% of everyone else is either driving or sleeping - what night dispatcher over at Werner is checking load boards? My entire 1.5 years at PAM and USXpress, I never got a load at night , unless I was preplanned from that day. So I'm wondering if those loads pay a bit better? I don't mind night stuff. Heck, I don't mind 200-400 mile loads as long as I'd be able to get $600-1000 for them, and I'll take two a day if I could get it. 400 miles is not long enough to have to stop except to take a leak at a rest area.
Anyways, my point was that I need 10+ breaks but I'd work longer days. I hate these hours of service regs, because not everyone is on the same internal clock, or has the same circadian rhythms.CorsairFanboy Thanks this. -
EOBR only knows when the truck moves. It doesn't know 3-5 hours of 10hr break might be spent on the computer working. I will transition to EOBR smoothly it won't be a problem

i said 5 loads a week. said nothing bout 4000 miles in 5 days. it takes 6 days. i drive roughly 700 in a 24 hour shift. and most weeks i'm 1 - 2 hours shy of coming home. we're home long enough for a 34. but in reality. it's only 24. at the end of the week your too tired to come home.
4000 mile weeks suck. that's all i gotta say.
it's not my fault some of you have attention defecit disorder.
course, with all the threads. i can understand being hard to keep up. -
i can't help it if you sit. but we don't. not usually.
we haul rebar a lot. usually takes an hour. haul cars. most times i'm the only truck. sometimes there's 2. haul wood. just roll on through. sheetrock. roll on through. any other stuff we haul. i'm usually the only load going that day. and sometimes that week.
first come, first serve, and most places we go to. barely have more then 5 trucks stopping in.
it must be a difficult thing for you to comprehend. but it's flat business. or tank if i'm pulling that. not van. not reefer. -
pay attention to the whole thread and not specific posts.
