I got booted a couple weeks ago from C1 in Ft. Wayne due to high blood pressure and apparently I've developed diabetes in the past year. Been unemployed for over a year now, but at my last job we were required to get yearly checkups for things like blood pressure, hearing, glucose, cholesterol...etc. Never had any problems then. Even checked my blood pressure a few days before going to school and it was well within limits.
Why do newbies get the boot?

Not listening to trainers or instructors is a big one and some people just don't "get it"..This industry isn't for everyone..

One driver went out drinking the night before--BOOTED. One driver could not figure out how to tell right from left (seriously)--BOOTED. One driver lied on application-quite common--BOOTED. Just a few of many reasons.....

There was one guy who got booted from our school just a week before graduation. During lunch an intructor was going through the same fast food drive thru, and spotted him smoking pot. Took a picture of him in the act from his cell phone.
When he got back from lunch they confronted him and he told him he would have to go take a drug trust.
He said, that he wasn't a drug user, he was told by an experienced driver that taking a few hits of pot would calm his neverousness and allow him to be mellow enough to absorb all the information...He thought it was unfair to punish him or kick him out because he was only trying to be a better student.

Sadly to say, some really nice folks are really ignorant. Their IQ is about 23. One old guy I remember from Henderson trucking orientation came in with no records of previous jobs, just his memory. Management tried their darndest to help him come up with valid employment dates but had to send him home. I've noticed over the years that some people just aren't meant to be truckers. I guess my point is there is much more to it than simply holding on to a steering wheel. Reading a map throws a lot of folks into a tizzy, evidenced by the number of drivers that get on the C/B and ask the best way to get from Tulsa to San Diego.

If you cant read a road map, and plan your route BEFORE starting the trip, you shouldnt be driving. And noone should have to tell you how to plan a trip.
Story Time: Pre Plan
I was in Richmond, Ky on Friday, with a 2 stop load to Port Arthur and Houston. Got loaded at 1800, drove up to the Loves and weighed the wagon. I wanted to run by the house, then head down to Orange, Tx and get a rest Drivers come in talking about the 6 hour drive from K-town and all the snow, and 75 being closed at Jellico. Talked with some other drivers that came from Louisville and they said the roads were clear. If I wait for Jellico to open, I may miss out on my restart. Hmmmm...
(well, I'd really like to run by the house and see Mom and whatnot, but I really need a restart...)
I pulled out of the loves as the rain/snow mix rushed in. Shot down a Kentucky parkway to 65 to Crashville, made a right on 40th to Memphis, then south on 55. Got to 12th street turned right to 10th into Orange in time to start a restart. Called Mom and sent my love.Last edited: Dec 21, 2009
