I know of some that actually will send you a link, and you take a compatability test and they see if you are a fit and if you belong. Kinda like a psych test.

    Its all about the money

The company gets money for everyone they hired, so they will hire a person once the person fill out a w4 they have proof that you was hired and that's all they need to get the money (I think its either $1000 or $2000 per person) so if the student quit company still make its money.

That's why they are in such a rush for a student to fill out a w4. I had a student on my truck for 4 days and he didn't fill out his w4 and they send a msg that the student need to fill it out or my truck go on hold. Wish was some bs if you ask me.

That was my main issue. I would set up to back and my first trainer would not let me back. My second trainer let me do everything.

So, if you were the 'company', what would you do?

All these people that 'want to be a truck driver', but haven't a clue what it really means.

    You need drivers.

The govment is offering incentives for hiring.

Do you turn down the $$$?
Do you turn away prospective drivers?

Or, do you play both ends against the middle - hoping for both a few good drivers and some extra capitol?

Here, again, is that old rumor that has been repeated so much as to become "common knowledge."

I have yet to see anyone provide evidence, first, that this guv'mint handout even exists and second, that any specific company is taking it.

I agree. I would also like to see some facts that prove companies get gov't. money . This board becomes like a lynch mob sometimes.

"HIRE Act: Questions and Answers for Employers
    #

Under the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act, enacted March 18, 2010, two new tax benefits are available to employers who hire certain previously unemployed workers ("qualified employees").
The first, referred to as the payroll tax exemption, provides employers with an exemption from the employer's 6.2 percent share of social security tax on wages paid to qualifying employees, effective for wages paid from March 19, 2010 through December 31, 2010.
In addition, for each qualified employee retained for at least 52 consecutive weeks, businesses will also be eligible for a general business tax credit, referred to as the new hire retention credit, of 6.2 percent of wages paid to the qualified employee over the 52 week period, up to a maximum credit of $1,000."

Straight from the horses mouth. Employer get employer 6.2% tax break and up to $1000 if retain employee for 52 weeks.

If I was hiring drivers that would make me want to hire more and more drivers.

Many state governments have programs that offer#free money#if they hire new employees. Other states will give employers#free money#to take a new employee and train them in a needed skill, like computers, or in certain occupations like food service. Employers can also get $2,400 from the government for hiring people with disabilities, people who live in certain zip codes, people who received government assistance, ex-felons or even veterans. To find out about programs in your area, contact your state Office of Labor, your state Office of Economic Development and your state Office of Taxation all located in your state capital#www.govengine.com

    The program has already expired.

And the stipulation is the "qualified" employee has to be retained for a full year.

How often does that really happen? What is a "qualified" employee?

The subject of this thread is "why do people quit after a short time?" "Short time" meaning less than three months, definitely less than a year. Therefore, not many drivers, for Swift or anybody else, will be a "qualified" employee, according to the guidelines. Swift does not get guv'mint money or tax breaks just for hiring somebody. They have to keep them.

So you just blew your own argument about this "free money" nonsense.

And, once again, nobody has shown any record of any company "getting money" for hiring anybody. The way you guys make it sound, the US guv'mint cuts a check every time an otherwise unemployed person is hired and trained. This is not happening.

    Try again.
