I was in medical equipment field before starting my trucking biz. Having to deal with different companies from China, Japan,EU( Germany&france) and NA, I found out, it's always easier to deal with Americans for the reason you 'v given. You won't hear anyone bragging abouthow their product is superior ,they usually cooperative and humble and quick to point out where & how to improve things.
Germans are on the top of my list of giving me all trouble to resolve an issue, and it may takes years to do so.
freightliner Columbia I got easily to fix, hardly break down, and if something happens , I can reach for expert advice &parts, where on Daf,Man,Iveco,Renault,Scania I 'v to accomplish mission impossible of getting parts, info and creativity of fabricating fits
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

i used to work with PLC until 7years ago , american were mostly rockwell series lsp1500 , and comparing to siemens they are cheaper , more user friendly, and better compatibility
but siemens way was much stable reliable more durable and generally much better...
but for example for siemens you must have their mounting rail , you must have their screews, for comunication with laptop you must have their interface which cost 500 ,allen bradley can work with rs232 or rj45 simple and easy,
than siemens can be programed only with their simatic softwares ( i have forget them little bit since i did not work with them for a long tim, i am now trying to learn how to work with pc7 it is way different than regular s7)
siemens did not had back than some functions that makes your life easier , for example scp function , but only regular scl , siemens get this only in their recent series
during high school and collage i used to work little bit on mitsubishi, danfoss and schneider , they are not bad, they get best from both noted earlier but they are rare and therefore almost everyone opt for siemens here -
Does anyone of follow the Dakar rally, or at least the trucks in the Dakar rally?
-
I watch the Dakar, but only from their website. TV used to carry it, but haven't done so in years.
I have been having a time this year with the website crashing my computer, or slowing it down badly.
Who's winning? lol. -
I check in on it now and then , Kamaz seems to be doing well as always.
In the car section I watch how Toyota (Hilux) does as they build them near where I am from , at at a fraction of the price of the European or American interests.
A couple of years ago a owner operator turned small fleet owner I know entered himself in the quad section with no sponsors and was up to 2nd or 3rd when he had a suspension failure. He had no back up and had to withdraw. I think he did well as having never entered before and is a huge guy. -
There are no US trucks in the rally, however Paccar has the second biggest contingent in the truck race. There were no less than 13 DAF trucks at the start, and DAF of course is the European branch of Paccar. MAN had one truck more. DAF trucks use the same engines as Paccar US, in fact they were designed by DAF. Ginaf (another very small Dutch truck manufacturer) uses Cummins engines, in the past they used Caterpillar. So even without US trucks, there is a US link.

I hope they have euro 7 emissions on those rally trucks...
-
Absolutely! However you have to fill in the emission standards yourself, since there is no Euro 7 standard (not even planned)
-
6,7 whatever ....no off road exemption was my point
-
Good point, if these trucks have license plates, than they must have Euro VI engines.
Cat sdp Thanks this.
