Why do so many newbies disappear after they hit the road?

Personally, my post count is down mainly due to time available. When I'm not driving, I'm cleaning / organizing the truck, reviewing paperwork, sleeping or looking and calling around for my next load. Leaves little time for reading / posting on TTR.

 

Many new people come here for information. Over 90% who go to truck driving school don't stay with it a whole year. The ones who make it have fewer questions and tend to drift away once they get past training and into the field. Unless this board becomes a social outlet and form of entertainment, they won't be back until they have a question or are researching companies for a job change.

 

People come here to learn. Once solo we know it all.

personally i get a room at least once a week just to get out of that box behind my seat

of course being a meat hauler plenty of time off waiting
still 3675 miles last week, 3455 this week only 2200 most likely next week

 

I've been driving for almost 2 1/2 years, been on this site just longer than that, and have learned a lot. I come here almost every day (even when I'm at home, like now) I mostly read, very seldom post, because I don't feel like I have something constructive to add to the conversation.

 

Not sure but I think he meant TTR , I looked at some of the posts and say that TTR, The Truckers Report , maybe thats it only abrev I saw.

 

Lots of good answers to the OP's question on here. I think it is a combination of a whole lot of things going on!

Sounds to me like you have your priorities lined up very well. When you first start off, SAVE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! Once you get "the hang" of things, and get your budget worked out, then you can start some "discretionary spending."

Everyone has something constructive to add, something you saw, or did or a problem avoided because you did "X" or even just a funny joke.

A lady walks into a pharmacy up to the druggist guy and says, "I want some cyanide to kill my husband with!!!" well the druggist guys jaw drops open and he says "listen lady, I can't sell you cyanide to kill your husband we will both go to jail for life" she then digs in her purse and hands him a photo of her husband in bed with the druggist wife, the druggist takes one look at the photo and replies "Why didn't you say you had a prescription?!!!"

 

I think most of them "drop off the face of the earth" because of SHAME.
The shame that they just couldn't hack it, after all that training and time.

This is why you never see a newbie journal or diary with a final post -

"Hey guys, it's me. Been out 5 weeks solo. Made about $1600. My wife threatened to leave me yesterday. Plus the lonliness out here is getting unbearable at times. And I've put on 20 pounds eating truck stop grissle. Got my first ticket last week for a bulb that must have blown minutes before. My dispatcher treats me like crap and the shipper/receiver people aren't much better. I feel like such an idiot for not listening to some of you guys 3 months ago about what to expect, and I'm out 4 grand for school. I have an interview with a local outfit Friday, $12.50 an hour hauling produce. Wish me luck."

 

Sure, shouldn't take long.

Don't waste time but don't rush.
Don't turn little mistakes into big ones.
Don't hit stuff.
Fear school buses and two wheelers.
Stay out of the herd.
