One thing that seems to be missing in this conversation *unless I missed it somewhere, is the "blind spot" that 4wheelers love to hang in as well. Trucks don't have rear view mirrors and back windshields, so they have areas that are blind beside and behind the truck. If you cannot see the drivers face in his side mirrors, you are in his blind spot and he cannot see you. I've seen it countless times when riding with my husband, they will hang there for several seconds to minutes. And he's asking me where they are so he can keep an idea in his head where they are. I think this is the thing that frustrates him more than anything. But it seems that many of the motoring public is not aware of the blind spots or simply doesn't care.

This is true (no back window), except my day cab does have 2..(split windows) but however too, the stack blocks that window. Too many times I have driven trucks without the front fender mirrors. I personally like them (on both sides), other folks don't for their reasons. I have mine adjusted just enough to spot something, then either speed up or back off, to catch a better view.

Certainly I agree, both that this is a case of the minority overshadowing the majority, and that the only reaction should be to do ones best to regain a safe position on the road as quickly as possible. I understand that the majority of truck involved accidents were likely caused by a car doing something stupid. I do think in this scenario the truck following too closely would be at fault but I have no interest in continuing a circular argument here. And once the truck has pulled in all I can do is work to regain safety anyway.

I think drivers ed should include more information on interacting with trucks as it seems the general public is just unaware most of the time. I am looking forward to self driving cars getting the drivers who have no interest in being safe or even driving at all out from behind the wheel.

Hope to see you safe drivers out on the road, ill be the 4wheeler not hanging out in your blind spots, passing on the right, following so close behind you can't see me or pulling right infront of you and slowing down.

I drive an International 9200i with 6 mirrors on it. 1 on each fender. 2 on each door. The only blind spots I have are behind my trailer and above and below my rig. If they are behind me, I don't tend to put much thought into it unless it's another truck. If they are in one of the other locations I can't see, well ........ I think maybe they made a wrong turn at Albuquerque.
