I suppose because the driver of the car had run everyone in that lane off the road so the lane was now clear for the truck to move into. Depending on the locale being driven in the trucker should take that opportunity to get that now clear lane, really, really, fast.
Why do some drivers insist on making a oncoming left turn in front of a truck when the light turns green? If not for my catlike reflexes I would have been pulling 3 different cars out of my grill on Friday. Is this a California, Northern Midwest, East Coast thing?
Why do some drivers engage in this dangerous practice?

Everyone makes a wrong turn at Albuquerque.RustyBolt Thanks this.

What tends to happen is if the truck needs to come over and doesn't do so ASAP, that space will quickly be filled by someone else. In a perfect world that wouldn't happen, but we all know the world isn't perfect.
We've all done it. The key is to back off to a safe distance once you get the lane placement you need.truckon Thanks this. -
Any trucker that rear ends a 4 wheeler because the 4 wheeler slamed on his brakes..is following to close.truckon Thanks this.

Apparently, you've never been in heavy traffic (like in Chicago) and had the idiots continuously fill in your stopping zone. If you had, you wouldn't say "Any".Rick Brown Thanks this.

You just back it down a little a continue, not an excuse to tailgate.ttyson Thanks this. -
When someone comes over 5 or 10 feet in front of you (usually without signaling) by definition you are tailgating. Whether you want to or not. And if traffic stops before you can back off, and you can't in that 5 or 10 feet, you're going to be the one getting a ticket. And you didn't do a thing wrong.
My point was and is we don't always get to make the decision to tailgate or not. So, to say "Any" trucker that rear ends a 4 wheeler is following too close is not true. The truck that gets cut off and is quickly in a collision was not "following" the car that cut him off. This is where I feel a dash cam is a must have. Especially for an owner operator.Rick Brown Thanks this. -
It doesn't take that much attention to be aware of other drivers, I can tell what almost every 4 wheeler is going to do before they do it. PAY ATTENTION DRIVER. It might just save your ### one day.magoo68 Thanks this. -
They are moving over behind you to catch the air off your vehicle and to "draft" off of you to save an ounce of fuel.
