Why do some on the forum say that truckers don't make more than a fast food worker

Simple I think, you still have HOS to work in, and as long as you have the hours and can't refuse a load it could work! (on paper anyway)

I once had a coworker who would break an essential piece of equipment twice a month so he could go home early. Drivers will wiggle out of forced dispatch if it means no loss in pay.

Yeah, there would definitely have to be a whole new kind of system in place. There are plenty of jobs that are salary and your required to work so many hours a week, but this industry is much more complicated. We are all underpaid!

I'll second that, but wages in the broader market have stagnated for a long time. We are underpaid, but opportunities aren't great other places either. Certainly not in fast food (crazy talk)

I'd rather be truckin than flipping burgers, even if it meant being home every night. Trucking does something for me no other job has ever done before.

I will eventually go back otr. If I don't the. Ill just buy a truck and trailer and drive it around on the weekends

    amiller,

I went through my training at swift for 3 weeks, took 1 week off, then the next week started orientation on a wednesday, and went on through thursday, and friday. Which was week 5. Got on a bus to meet my mentor week 6, by week 7 at the end I got my first check... It was 250 dollars... ####..... I got on an airplane and came home to my family by week 8.

Showed my wife how much I made, because the airline ticket was 250 dollars to come home. I showed her pocket lint....

Trucking in a nut shell, for people starting out.

I've worked both fast food and driving trucks. I clear in three days driving what I used to make in two weeks making chicken sandwhiches.

My daughter brought home 212.35 last week working at Mickey d. I brought home just over 1000 and was home for the weekend. I'll take my check over hers any day of the week. True it varies week to week but hers is pretty steady and I'm always at least 4 times what she's making every weekend when I get home.

I chose a good company and not a bottom feeder although sometimes it does seem like the pay doesn't equal the hours X stress X morons you have to deal with X time away from home

Alot of varying perspectives on this one I think in alot of ways that is directly proportional to how well ( or poorly ) they chose in the
company they went with. We all know ( or most of us anyway ) what
the deal is when we come out here. Anyone whining cause they aren't
getting paid for off duty time sleeping or figuring that off duty time into an 'hourly' rate is doing just that. Whining.

Depends where you start. My training was 2 1/2 months long and after week two of training I was taking home $700-800/week consistently for the rest of the training period. Only got better after training was over.
