i am not a ham opperator but i do have a cb.
all i ask is for anyone that has more than 4 watt cb radios to "just not brag on the airways" about how many watts you have and stop keying up anytime you feel like it and rambling on about nothing to yourself.
WHY DO the HAMS always take over cb posts ?

The difference between running more then 4 watts on the CB bands and someone driving down the highway at 100 mph are apples and oranges.
Running 100 watts or even 1000 watts is not going to kill someone or harm anyone.
Taking Crack can kill you and could cause you to kill someone else but keying up over 4 watts will do no one any harm what so ever.
Huge difference here people. Me having a coverted 10 meter for use on the 11 meter band is not harming anyone in any way shape of form.
I could careless about the emergency bands because I don't use them heck my radio has a switch that goes to FM and I also have a dial that goes from A to F but I never touch it.
The thing is that people would not have these 10 meter radios that could possibly get to the Ham sections if the power limits were removed from the CB bands so that we could purchase legal higher powered CB equipment.
But then the Hams will be upset because now the CBers will beable to comunicate over a longer distance or just as far as the Hams and that upsets them because they paid to beable to comunicate these distances.
To me it is all about staying in touch with my freinds over a longer distance even though the conditions are not perfect for a regular 4 watt CB. -
Thanks Rat.
I could not have said it better.
While I have a Ham license I never use it. I have a 10 meter with all the bells and whistles but never go outside of the 40 CB channels on 11 meter. I have three different amps and a Motor Maul but rarely use them.
The only time I use them is to talk to friends at night when the watergate is rolling. And I will also do a key down comp from time to time but trust me when I say that I am NOTHING compared to 90 percent of the guys that are there. I thought I was going to be hot stuff when I showed up with my 4000w swing. I was in the short bus group! Sha Sha is swinging well over 100,000 watts at the comps. He never touches a radio any other time.
To me this is just one of those things that people can carry some drama about. The only "Man Parts Envy" thing. The same thing happens when a chubby kid has a super hot wife. Guys get jealous and talk trash about the guy or girl...or both.
In the rig I am talking on a cobra 29 and I CAN swing around 450w if the box is on. On the 99V I can swing a few thousand depeneding on what voltage I send to it. Last night I used it to talk to my brother who drives and was in Tenn. We droppped to Low Side 33 (took me a while to remember how) and I talked to him on it for about 20 minutes. Then I came back to 40 on the other radio and talked with the amp on to a guy in CA then another in Canada.
When I came back to 19 I joined in the ruckus with the amp off here in El Paso. I read this post and when to shower. In conversation I asked if anyone else was on there and a few said yes. I asked about bleedover and they said they could hear bleedover from the "tour of mexico" folks.
Now if things are the dramatic way some would have them seem wouldn't I have locked every channel down?
Folks...no matter what you do in life there are going to be haters out there. let them hate! That is their job! lol
I have had people tell me I should be ashamed to drive a big truck that polutes the way it does. Same with snowmobiles....same with my bass boat. The thing comes back to it is my money and my toys. I could care less what any of you think as you should not care what I think. If you are not hurting anyone then who cares!? There will always be the..."but what if" comments on anything you say.
Also..in case you have not carefully read the laws (all of them) you can be and are doing something illegal at some point somewhere ALL THE TIME!
What about that stop sign you didn't stop at for a 5sec minimum? Not the law? Read carefully.
I think I like watching people get all up in the air about a post on the internet more than I do listening to people on the radio!
Oh and one last thing..... When rolling through Kalamazoo listen for me. Let me know who you are and that you saw this here and I would show you what your "power" is all about. A straight out of the box chrome edition with my homeade 12 element. I can lay the hammer with that thing if I wanted to. not a single watt tuned peaked nothing! Just a power supply, radio...and old D104 mic. It will kick it back and you guys can watch me get brown!
lol
All in fun.....
Pauliesquirrellsgnwild Thanks this. -
I can do Canada any day on the 40 using my Texas Star 670 on a single alternator...but hanged if I can talk to Fla. from right here in Ga!
I've done Jamaica several times, Virgin Islands, and others, but I'm not really into skip that much. Just like to test out the amp once in a blue.
For the record, I never use it. I do about 32w+ swing just with the radio and I've never had trouble talking to anyone on the road, even over a good distance. But if you tick me off...I may say something and you're gonna hear it.squirrellsgnwild Thanks this. -
That is all well and good till its you in the ambulance with the test leads hooked to your heart when you go by the truck stop and your buddy with all his dirty power where he shouldn't be because he doesn't know any better triggers your heart attack and you drop dead then it will be ok. Just another one that wouldn't listen or didn't hurt any one just having fun some one always pays the rules and laws are there for a reason besides to make your personnel life miserable. when people get over this ME ME ME attitude and realize you are not entitled to the world just because you can breath you will all be allot better off and grow up if you want to act like children stay on the CHILDREN BANDsquirrellsgnwild Thanks this. -
Sorry but that, ambulance problem, is not going to happen ever.
I see more of the "Me Me Me" Attitude in alot of the Hams then I do the working drivers with CBs in their trucks.
As far as the "Dirty Power", well that would not be a problem is the power restrictions were removed from the CB bands. We would not have people out there hacking radios to make more power because we would have better tuned radios from the manufacturers without the "dirty power". -
I disagree. As long as there is a buck to be made off unsuspecting or uncaring operators, there will be hack artists slapping out homemade C class amps made from old alternator parts and whatever that will shut down television for ten blocks and fozz out CB channels ten wide.
Which reminds me that I need to go out and meter my radio settings, clean up my modge and check the connex board. This is required every time the wife uses it... -
If they removed the 4 watt power restricton for cb they will just raise the limit and the Bad *$$ who want lots of power will just be at it again trying to get that extra watt or more
-
YOW! I THOUGHT something was wrong with my 'tenna! No one was coming back to me the last couple days...my SWR's were sky! A quick cleanup on the stinger and a coat of dialectric grease shot it flat again...28w swing and some guys down on the interstate a couple miles off told me ta shuddup, so I musta got her right. I added a rubber cover to keep rainwater out of the box.

When was the last time the FCC actually did their job, which IS CONTROLLING THE AIRWAVES anyway? They have been busy censoring terrestrial radio for the past 8+ years.
Not to mention the fact that CB owners who take the time to post here are obviously interested in the responsible use of their equipment. Perhaps the brow beating some try to impose on this forum is falling upon the wrong individuals?
Personal, breathe, alot. I for one am certainly not going to let anyone impose their supposed superior intellectual beliefs upon me. A radio affects the breath of the personnel in an ambulance allot?
Remove me from this forum if you wish. The holier than thou bs is OLD anyway. I joined this group because I believed it was a venue to discuss radio use. My bad apparantly.
