Besides, if you LEARN and earn your ham license, you wont have to go spend $$$ for repairs, antenna tuning, antenna installations and other assorted things you local radio butcher....err repairman rips you off to do. You can fix your own stuff and actually KNOW how to use it without having to resort to the net for advise.

But then, that would be work or something....:biggrin_25511:

I don't think there is a problem with people asking advise. I think the problem is those who know nothing and are unwilling to ask, all the while act like they know it all.

I run CB and Amateur radio. I will turn in anyone who bleeds over on my 2 meter and I went into Oklahoma City to the TA. One of our Co. was there and I tried to ask him a Q. Some prostitute told me to shut the F up it was her business chanel. I politely asked her to wait 1 minute for the guy to give me directions. She called me evrey name but white. I said I am going to do something about you and your friends and she laughed at me. I called the television station and asked them why OKC cops didnt do anything about the prostitutes and they were out there filming in about 1 hr. Cops cleaned it up for awhile too. :biggrin_25514:

BTW after studying antennas, propagation, free space radiation patterens, and trying all of them I could afford I get the biggest laugh at the guys who run an antenna with exterior coil and tilt it at a 45 degree angle. Whats that? talking to the moon behind them! I try to tell them nicely but they ignore me.

Good idea calling the TV station. I like it. You could have went one better and called the local newspaper.

That's just for the guy in Key West, FL trying to get a bear report for Anchorage, AK when he gets there.

I've got my ham license (general..BEFORE they dropped the code) but I must admit there are a lot of ham geeks out there who have no sense of humor whatsoever. It's kind of an old mans hobby. I love HF but you must be in a very dry boring mood to interact in that spectrum. I haven't been on the air lately (apartment) so I don't know if anything changed since the dropping of the code requirement. I was hoping maybe some younger guys would take up the hobby. No offense to anyone here as there are some fine hams out there with a personality (a few)

You are right there. I have encountered a few of those. I'm only 28 myself and haven't seen eye to eye with some in the past. I usually hang around 20 meters in the truck, 14.302.5 or on 40 at 7.268 or so. I don't think most people take offense here as there are so many different personalities in the hobby it would basically exclude the person from participating.
