Guy at one of the scales in Georgia where they have weight in motion said they "go fishing" even if you have prepass. If you weigh over 70K they pull you in to make sure you don't have too much weight on the tandems.

That's all over, closer you get to the magic number the more likely you're getting the red light.

The pre-pass system is set up to bring in at whatever interval the DOT wants to setup. So much of that process is automated.

It matters to me, especially on 50 in Mardela Springs. If the one in front of me blows by, then he's getting chased down while I sneak right on through. :D :biggrin_25520:

If it’s a PrePass site and all the trucks are pulling in then you know they have it turned off so they’re probably watching for runners. But if sone trucks are passing there’s a chance they’re not sitting there locked on the PrePass screen to see who is supposed to come in. So move over a lane and try to run up along someone’s trailer and cruise by.

You just have to know where you’re running. When we’d bring cattle out of FL we’d be around 82k gross. FL overweight ticket was 5 cents per pound and you can only get one ticket so it would be foolish to chance getting caught when you can pay your ticket and get out of the state. The next couple scales you use “FreePass” and drive by, and by the time you hit the scale at El Reno the next morning the calves shrunk enough that you’re legal. If you’re going to break rules you just have to be smart about it.

yes I did. I had all I could take of Austin. Born and raised there. The Austin I knew was rapidly disappearing. Plus high cost of housing. My brother was dead and my sister moved dad up here so no family left there. Mom had moved back here almost 20 years ago and she needed some help. All my family except my brother was from around here.
And I was tired tired tired of the heat. Tired of it. Now I get to shovel snow in the winter lol. Oh my commute to work is a 20 mile straight shot down the highway. Traffic here is almost non existent unlike Austin. That’s something else I was sick of.
I should have moved here along time ago.

I am from Texas, born in Lufkin. I have family all up and down I-35 and I-10 , Most all my family that lived anywhere near either Austin and San Antonio have moved into the "piney woods" area of Texas and are happy.

I had the exact same thing happen to me at the i10 west bound scale in California. The trucks were stopped on the roadway and the sign still said all trucks must enter scale. You’d think they would have common sense to close the scale until there’s room for more trucks

I figured if they chase me and cite me I’d have a real strong argument to have the ticket dismissed considering how dangerous of a situation they (CHP) created.
