Some have no choice, like me.
The braintrust here have simplified driver involvement by ordering trucks w minimal gauges. We just shake our heads..
It's the set it forget it method..lol

But have a hearty chuckle as you roll by knowing we will be on the clock till repairs are made at 55 p/h.
It's the reason I bring winter survival gear 5 months a year.

I BBQ'ed a main box in a twin stick in a truck I owed once loaded heavy on a long pull on Rt 6 in western Colorado once . It was kinda of a expenssive deal & mostly my own fault though

It baffles me that they will spend money on Flow Belows, APUS, automated transmissions, and anything to eek out a couple more hundreds of an MPG but they won't spend money on a boost gauge, a pyrometer, and a 13 speed transmission so that the truck can be driven properly in order to maximize fuel economy and avoid thousands of dollars in repair bills and lost revenue.

I can answer that quite honestly.....

Because most of the time now days, neither the person sitting at a desk writing out the spec's for the new trucks, nor the drivers they're gonna have in these truck even know what these things are......... much less know how to use them.

Why would you want to pair a manual trans with a drivetrain when every other component is set up to pair with an auto? They can program the shift points, they can turn off manual mode, they can have manual mode but override it if the driver is doing something outside the parameters set. They set the truck up so that no matter who they throw in it the truck will get fairly decent fuel economy. If I was in charge of ordering trucks for a company that just does normal truckload freight there’s no way I’d go back to a manual trans and 3.xx rears.

    Oh you bet
You want me to tell how those needle noses are the highest level of Badazz Kool there is in the world of trucks .. and how just because the grill isn't wide doesn't mean they don't get air flow .. and that those older needle noses use to pull the same hills and mountains maybe steaper since there wasn't a interstate system then when they were in their prime..
Or the fact that there was a early 50's KW posted in another thread just a few days ago with a 3406b model stuffed in it and it has no issues keeping cool

The funny thing is all trucks are speced the same even though we stay in a particular region so AZ is the same as CO and MN and FL.. No heavy duty cooling or heating or cab insulation, all geared the same whether flat land or mountain work.

Guess special ordering and the reselling/trade off is to difficult or complex for these big outfits.
