I remember once years ago I took a load of bagged play sand to a toys r us dc. I had a flatbed with a boom lift on it. Anyways I go to check in theres a room full of roadie van drivers standing around. The dude behind the window throws a page or 3 of stickers and tells me I have to put one on each bag of sand.

I spoke right up, Well no I think not I can unload myself in the parking lot or take the load back but I’m not putting stickers on every bag……you should have seen the looks on the other drivers faces…..

couple of phone called were made , this was before cell phones . Next thing they say door whatever it was and they unloaded it and off I went…..no stickers

People who hate truckers don't matter. All the regulations don't really matter to me either, mainly because I can't remember them all. I remember the important ones. I park my truck at home. I've gotten tickets, and kept parking at home. #### em. If I'm forced to park somewhere else then so be it. At the end of the day, trucking is just a means to earn money. I can't allow myself to get too emotionally invested. I do it because it's a job with more autonomy than the average job. No matter how many regulations, I still have the freedom of the open road. I do it because it's good money and I can make a living. I do it because there is a thrill about driving a semi that's undescribable.

Why are you singling out immigrants? It's a hell of a lot more American drivers out here. They are just as guilty of the accusations. I came across an American born white guy who took a load from Roseland, LA to Portland, OR for 3500. I saw a Schneider driver throw an entire bag of piss behind his trailer at Pilot in Salina, KS. I could go on and on. Every driver has contributed to the "delinquency of the trucking industry" in some form or fashion.

The trash thing is not true, things were demonstrably filthier in 80s with fewer immigrants

In flatbed, i dont mind helping the unloaders a bit, but it always rubs me wrong when they say its required that I do THEIR job (like attaching their inventory tagging, or removing coil wrap, if someone wanted me to sticker every bag of mulch, sand or salt, i think i'd have done the same as you did)

I don’t know exactly why, but I can’t see myself doing any other job. The truck driver haters are generally the ones who have barely made it out of their hometown and think Minneapolis or wherever is the only place to exist. Once they make driving such a hassle that it makes their cost of living even higher, we’ll point and laugh from states like Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, etc. that actually care a tiny bit

I'd bet money the OTR sector of trucking is close to equal Foreign vs American drivers... Couple more years and the Americans will be the minority, no doubt.

Last thing I want to see when I go home for R&R is my truck.. Or my neighbors truck and the 1970’s Winnebago he plans to restore some day..

It’s why I live in a gated community…too keep my fellow riff raff out :)

I'd still bet largely on American drivers over foreign. Some of them stay here long enough to make some money, and go back. It's only so many that are allowed to come over here. A couple more years and Americans will be the minority? Mmmmm....if that is going to happen, I don't think any of us will be here to see it.
