Do the work of the shipper or receiver ? Hell some places I pick up and deliver to these days I don't even have to open or close the trailer doors .

well, when you got slobs at the truckstops, or travel centers as they are called, where there have been entire families going for decades now, that act like fools, foul mouthed and smell like dog crap, can you blame the public for hating truckers?
when you have truckers speeding up and down the roads, or as the media say.. "barreling down the road just before the accident", can you blame the public for hating truck drivers?
when you see on the news big rigs blocking an entire highway, jackknifed and no one can get to work, can you blame the public to hate truckers?
when ignorant truckers shut down highways in protest of whatever BS, and prevent the flow of traffic, can you blame the public for hating truckers?
truckers did this all to themselves, we were once highly respected, we were polite, were were helpful to the broke down motorist,
but the decline started slowly, as more and more CDL Mills opened up, and took in any moron to teach how to drive.,
companies like Werner, and nearly ALL gasoline tankers companies had MANDATORY experience requirements BEFORE they'd even look at your application.
companies wanted cheap labor, forget any immigration of new people to the country, companies were opening the flood gates to the ex-cons, the morons, the drug addicts, alcoholics, sex offenders, multiple accident, multiple ticketed jerks if there ever was that wanted to drive.
add all this up, and can you blame the public for hating truckers..???????????
PUT THE BLAME ON YOU, for wanting to be a trucker, in the first place.Rideandrepair, dwells40, Flat Earth Trucker and 2 others Thank this. -
I still enjoy the job. I just hate the people involved. Actually I just hate people so no job will actually work for me LOL.

I love to hate it. I hate that I love it.

When I first started driving in the mid 90s, I loved it about 90% of the time. The other 10%, I'd just deal with whatever it was. Today it's down to probably 85/15%, but i still wouldn't want to do anything else. I feel I have been blessed by having a occupation where I can make good $$ and love doing it.
All my life, I've seen people that go to work every day and just can't stand what they do. But they have family to support so they just suck it up and do it.Rideandrepair, dwells40, Sirscrapntruckalot and 8 others Thank this. -

You go to factories and warehouses and see those people and thank God that you're leaving......and they look at you as if they wish they could come too.

I am getting to the point where I am starting to despise a lot of the drivers I see. Sometimes, I will pull up to a truck stop and every single pump is taken by a truck and NO ONE is getting fuel. The Boise T/A is bad about this. Or sometimes, I will fuel and pull up, run inside to tap a kidney and maybr grab a drink. I come back outside to find some goober walking around in circles yelling "ABOUT TIME...I GOT PLACES TO BE!!!".... and EVERY OTHER PUMP IS EMPTY.... PERIOD. No one is even past them.... my truck and mr ####### are the ONLY two trucks there... People like this are a HUGE reason I take old US and State highways just to get off the Interstate. I take old roads sometimes that parallel the Interstate for a couple hundred miles. I find myself on some of the old highways across the desert in CA quite a bit. I have gone for 3 hours at a time and not see another vehicle of ANY kind moving, let alone a truck.bryan21384, drvrtech77, Rideandrepair and 3 others Thank this.

Did that quite a bit back in the 80s, Usually avoiding scales. Got caught a few times too!Rideandrepair and dwells40 Thank this.

You nailed it with companies wanting cheap labor.
This has eroded every standard and cohesion that there ever was in the trucking industry.
Anyway, rather go on a lengthy diatribe, I'll refrain from turning into Dave from Smart Trucking and stop there. You are welcome.
