Why Do we do this?

I do it as it has a lot of autonomy and freedom, plus pays OK as long as the truck is behaving itself.

I live in small community that hate me because they think I steal all their water, though it falls from the sky. Then they hate me again for the big truck that ruins all the roads, though pot holes appear every time it rains even where trucks don't go. Then they hate me because I am the big truck on the narrow windy road, though they are the ones on the wrong side of the road, or speeding over the edge when it rains. Then they hate me because I'm slow, though very few locals do anywhere near the speed limit or indicate.

I have come to conclusion people just hate on others because they are unhappy; so direct their lack of inner development onto others as compensation. They seem incapable of resolving their own mental stance on happiness so find it easier to whinge and hate.

They don't see or care I drop $6500 into the local service station each week. Donate significant $ to local sports clubs. Supply water for local need, Use the local mechanic, electrician, or tyre guy bla bla bla.

So let them hate, its my choice if I want to let them in. Yes the dickheads can come think and fast some days, but I just focus on what's working for me, my family, and my happiness. I focus on people who have their own happiness in check.

 

Bryan, immigrants have been riffed on all along. The Chinese, Mexicans, French (believe it or not), Irish (ffs, why them?) and anyone Catholic from wherever. Add to that, WW2 era Japanese, immigrant or not, anyone with a German-sounding name (also WW@ era). Cold war? Polish, Russian, etc. Today? Any Africans, Mexicans, Indians/Pakis, Afghanis, anyone from MiddleEast Asia, and most recently Canadians from certain companies. For a nation with one of the Liberty Statues, we sure are rough on those eeeee-vil barbarians.

But let's face the truth here. THEY can be rather rough on us, too. I once witnessed a Nigerian call one of our African-decended drivers "disgusting boat slime." For those who may not understand that, it was a clear reference of POSSIBLY being a descendant of former slaves. It's almost as if we have a societal hazing policy that even B1s get into with ease.

However, from my experience, most of the nastiness on the roads come from our homegrown types. That includes graffiti and brown-colored art stains in any given toilet.

 

Honestly, most do NOT hate us. I know this because I actually leave my truck after parking every night/evening (except when on a ramp - I'm not THAT stupid). Some get out of the way, others let us in when losing a lane. Believe it or not, drivers with bad attitude show it in the way they drive the rig. Truckers seem to think those 4-wheelers are only out to get US. Look closer. Those folks treat everyone that way, rig or not.

Do I get flipped off or hear angry honks without knowing why? Yes. Do I care? Not usually. The only time I take note and wanna test my tire knocker on their skull is when they slam on their brakes in front of me trying to get me out of a lane I'm trapped in by traffic. Does that happen every day? No. It seems abnormal, but it isn't. Most treat us as we are: another vehicle keeping them from speeding to their destination.

 

I don't think it's particularly the immigrants, I think it's just Society in general.

Its always easier for humans to blame whatever is alien or different for their problems instead of looking inward.

 

Point taken, but I guess you don't have protesters at your gate, cars parked across your gate, letters to the editor, social media hate, cars stopping in front of you for no reason, then taking off after you have stopped. Cars flashing lights at you for no reason given there is no hazard ahead or police. Drivers hanging out of the car giving you the finger while they cut the corner or not. Trucks vandalised, property vandalised. Even had a competitor have a kids pushbike thrown in front of the truck, then reported to the police as reckless driving attempting to kill their child.

Still you are right its not all. I keep a low profile and have found a group or good trustworthy mates I have dinner and laugh with every week. On his a tree lopper, he is hated as well. Cutting down all "their" trees.

 

Just becomes part of the job I guess. Last 5 years I’ve been parking my rig (bobtail only) at my own driveway and I live in northern section of central Jersey. I did have one New Yorker move in couple months and immediately made a stink over it started getting the police telling me about it (never said it to my face just made phone complaints to the PD). He didn’t know some of the PD knows my family just cause we’ve been living here for decades and told us who was constantly throwing complains about it. Paid 2 really mean looking “thugs” $100 to just walk with me and give him a little scare no really serious threats just a “I really don’t appreciate you moving in and immediately calling the police on something that isn’t bothering you dude. If you want problems I’m the one to mess with” . He acted dumb like all the snakes do but I couldn’t call him out cause he’d definitely make a report about a PD officer narking on him. But anywho I stopped getting complaints.
