I called a few brokers just to see what the rates were because I called the shipper and knew what they were getting. You guys are right, some are shady.:biggrin_25513:

I only called a few. But the thing that pisses me off is when I get a load secured from a shipper but 8 other brokers have already called and offered them a low ball rate, So when I call they tell me they already know about it and hang up in my face before I can tell them the rate.

I got calls on these for trucks we had posted today:

    Wausau, WI to Syracuse, NY
    43,000#, tarps
    975 miles
    Paying $1,800 to the truck.

    Joplin, MO to Syracuse, NY.
    44,000#, tarps.
    1,200 miles
    Paying $2,200 to the truck.

Truckers: Is it good or bad freight?

From my experience no driver likes NY

The load I tried to move this weekend

Saint Henry OH, TO NY, NY
    42000
    Reefer 50 degrees
    650 miles
    $1750 to the truck

No one wanted it, and my shipper wasn't very happy when I gave it back.

I don't deal too much with Flat beds but the flat bed I tried to move from AL- TX, nobody wanted to go to Texas

Lol why are you asking us for? We dont know what yoru costs are. You might be able to run at 1.50 a mile where others need at least 2 in order to crank a profit. You need to find out what your cost per mile is and go from there.

Well I think lots of drivers just dont like going to NY city. But also, remember that drivers dont like working on the east coast....its like a vacuum, freight goes there, but doesnt return! lol. Hard to get out of that area once you get over there. same thing for Florida.

Tx is a big hit and miss. I have gotten rates out of Dallas for 2.20per loaded mile and 1.70pm from TX to northwest. There is also a bunch of ridiculous loads for 1.30 or less. It is a BIG hit and miss in this area. Brokers still seem to call when I post the truck. Sometimes there are a few who will up their rate to 2.00pm if you negotiate with them at the last minute. There are also days where nothing seems to budge over 1.40pm. This has been my experience with TX so far.
